That would never pass in a million years especially since anyone trying to sell off the public community colleges would get sued to death. That's a complete nonstarter.
Seeing how much it costs California, it's an easy cut.

    Let them go private.

I hate public sector workers. Including cops and firemen. And especially teachers.

In order that anyone who wants to improve their education can afford to do so community colleges are heavily subsidized.

Just a reminder, kiddies. Before Reagan was elected governor, California had the top-rated public university system in the country...and there was no tuition for California residents.

Um, isn't it STILL the top-rated public university system in the country? Aren't UVA, UMich, maybe UIUC in some fields the only 2-3 state schools that come close to Berkeley?

UIUC and UT are both comparable to UCB in physics. UCSB as well. Michigan is a lot further down, as is UVA. UWisc is much higher than either of these.

Top 4 public universities according to USNWR:

                    Berkeley
                    UVA
                    UCLA
                    UMich

And all of the UCs are in the top 15.

UMD at least use to be up there too.

But yeah, the Cali public universities are very good.
