  • Conservatives playing "identity politics!"

Damn Laura Bush for making the comment in a recent interview, saying that "as a woman, she is proud of Sotomayor's nomination" to U.S. Supreme Court.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

But as a non-Latina, she is no doubt horrified.

Laura Bush probably knows she can't make decisions as well as a Latina since she hasn't lived that life.

        Exactly!

It's racist to suggest that a cracker lady has anything close to the wisdom of Sotomayor!

Alito said the same stuff, that his background influences his decisions and his views on justice, and the Republicans cheered him. Bush I said he wanted a justice with empathy, Clarence Thomas said he'd let empathy influence how he reached decisions, and Republicans cheered him. Suddenly Republicans all turn a 180 and now claim it is wrong for a justice to let his background influence his decisions or to have empathy. The only thing that has changed is that now we're talking about a Democratic nominee. Hypocrites and liars... That's just the Republican way.

            Sad. I mean, REAL sad.

Oerdin: Given your track record with the truth, links should be a requisite part of your posts.

I await your linking of a speech where Alito extols the virtues of being white and how it enables him to make better decisions than someone who hasn't lived the life of an white man.

This is common sense. This is also not what Sotomayor said.

As a GOPer, she is no doubt welcoming of Latinos but at the same time hopes the icky things will go away.

Yes. The last three First Ladies have actually been men. It's a disturbing trend.
