I really don't see this 'climate of persecution' against gay people. I have seen them spraypaint my church with '*** haters'. They were even so kind as to leave their bright red stencils.

Ok, we have the definition of persecuted. A specific group of people is not considered persecuted against unless Ben has seen them beaten on the street. (a classic definition)

And being persecuted is no excuse to persecute back. I don't condone what they did, but i think if you look at it which came first, I think your persecution against gays came first. Great way to justify your persecution.

@ Ben: I would point out that the context of that verse is a direct response to as question by the Pharisees asking Jesus if "it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?" in verse 3 and unrelated to the issue of homosexuality. This is confirmed by the conversation continuing to be about the issue of divorce after your quote.

I know from plenty of other sources that the ancient Greeks were huge on pederasty, and eros was certainly inclusive of the NAMBLA stuff. IIRC they actually thought boy-diddling was the best kind of relationship, since women could never be men's intellectual equals. As for the bit about the origins of "love," I didn't get that from Wiki at all. I got it from a Medieval Lit class focusing on the origins and development of "courtly love." The whole concept started out as a half-assed justification for adultery and got whitewashed later.

Exactly so. It's their prerogative whom they permit to be on their property. It doesn't matter that it's a hospital, they can refuse entry to anyone as a visitor. The speculation is that she was denied because she was gay, but from what I can see that wasn't the case.

Which they provided later. I don't see the issue. Seems like it was an extraordinary accommodation not a rejection and that there were damn good reasons for them to refuse visitors. You left out the pertinent fact that she was in a trauma ward not a regular bed.

I said that she loved truly, and the man she was in love with did not love her back. I did not say she necessarily needed to be liberated, because it worked for her, no matter how disagreeable and reprehensible I find the situation. Sure, if I were there, I'd've advised her that the husband was no good, as he clearly wasn't, but if she wanted to go back to him, I'd've stepped out of the way.
