Oh and I got a short ban once from Ming. It was apparently for posting about sexual matters since I was arguing with someone about some sex act or another. Apparently ming told us to chill in the thread and then banned us both. I was surprised since my posts were not at all vulgar, never noticed the warning and would not have thought it applied to me if I had.

I inquired of Ming and he never explained it very well nor could he explain it in the ensuing weeks when I messaged him with examples of sexual content that were much worse but which were here on poly without any mod intervention. Since it became apparent that he would never admit he was wrong and that the standard he was enforcing on the issue was so arbitrary to be laughable, I dropped it (but still believe he was completely incorrect)

I went into a fit of rage yesterday when I got a letter from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

On the same day at the mayor announced a $25M 3 acre park I got a bill for the new Toronto Car Tax of $60 per year. This is on top of the Ontario vehicle registration fee. So the taxes alone just for owning a car (this is on top of the $2500 in provincial tax I paid to buy it just 5 years ago) are about $200 per year. Then they decided to knife me even further by letting me know that now that my car is 5 years old, every 2 years I need to spend $40 and take it into a shop and wait 45 minutes so they can tell me it doesn't pollute past the standard. It's a 5 year old Japanese car with outstanding mileage, of course it doesn't! I'd notice if it does. Of course the cars that do pollute past the standard (those made prior to 1987) are exempt from this rule.

You should probably be paying much more than $200/yr just to own a car.

My '05 Accent was less than 10k, I pay less than 80$ per month for insurance, and it is less than 1k$ per year for maintenance.

I think this should actually be given serious consideration. It makes the mods' job easier as they don't have to try to figure out who is the bigger asshat on that particular day. It also constructs a prisoners' dilemma type game where the only way they can both continue posting is to 'collude' - to work together for their joint benefit. I personally find that priceless.

The insurance rate is because of the area I live in (Toronto), it's far, far cheaper in Calgary when I lived there. The people here cannot drive, and steal cars more. The car makes virtually no difference in my rates (I even got a quote for an 89 Corrolla which was $10/mo cheaper).

On most years it's less thn $1K per year in maintenance. Wait til your car is out of warranty. At the 5 year point you also gotta do more different kinds of maintenance (brake replacement, etc) which are kind of pricey. Add in stuff like $250 for windshield replacement because you drive on Ontario's ****ty, unmaintained highways which kick up giant rock chips...
