Right, we've had a complaint that the last quote Asher posted from Ben was from a private area on another site.

I'm not quite sure what the policy is on this, so I've deleted the comment for now.

I'll consult with JM. If it's not currently against the rules, we might tweak the rules. I don't think it's fair to ban someone for something that wasn't against the rules when they posted it, and at first review I don't think it did (quite) break current poly rules.

Other than the don't be a jerk one, but if we banned people for just that there'd be no-one here.

Certainly we can't take a hard line on Ben baiting Asher and not treat Asher exactly the same if he does the same thing.

Anyway, I welcome feedback as always.

That was NOT from a private area. Whoever told you that is a liar.

The quote is from the main FreeFireZone.net forum. There is no statement of privacy implied or explicit. Anyone can register for an account on the FFZ in ten seconds and without even activating it read and post on the site.

I would state the obvious here about the integrity of the people telling you this stuff, but I don't think it's necessary.

Before you go off all Asher on me you should note that you aren't banned. Other than removing the comment (which I nearly did yesterday anyway 'cause of the Ben baitworthyness of it) and mentioning that there'd been a complaint we specifically didn't rush into any action.

I haven't been to FFZ for years, and I don't intend to start now.

The larger point in all this is that Ben and you frequently break the forum rules in going at each other. personally I don't care-- I am not a mod so I have no responsibility to enforce those rules and on a personal level I read your exchanges when it amuses me or skip it all when it doesn't

I actually wouldn't mind/care if outright flaming each other was totally allowed but I just think it would get boring since now people at least try to be creative with some of their insults

Oh and Asher -- I hope you never get banned-- although you are frequently rude to people, you are ok to talk hockey with and are at least an interesting poster . You are as subtle as a brick to the head though.

Don't get a swelled head though, I don't really want Ben banned either. I have rarely seen a more obtuse persona and I vacillate between thinking he is a person playing a role fairly well or he really is that idiotic-- I have never really thought hard about which it might be, but overall do often find Ben amusing and will even engage him for short periods when the mood hits


To the mods-- I simply ask you use the banning rod infrequently-- A ben Asher hissyfit is easy to identify and ignore for those that don't want to read it.

Overall I would be fine with a much more open and freewheeling set of rules. Obviously there have to be some rules if this is to be apropriate as a "family site" but a few personal insults?? Who cares?

I'd feel the same even if they were aimed at me (although neither asher or Ben ever throw them my way even though I engage both ) The most insults I ever faced were from kidicious--hmm I'm reading a Greenspan book now, if I posted some of his conclusions I could get kid in a froth

Good- IMHO it should be a fair level of offensiveness to get banned. I know it will arise at some point and I'm sure there may come a time when you have no choice especially with current rules. If you are going to have rules, you need to enforce them

I think you'll find that most people who actually read and comprehend posts before replying to them get treated just fine. That's why no one ever really insults you, except for some very special people.

I don't agree with you on many things, mainly by virtue of you being a Newfie, but that doesn't warrant an insult (it's bad enough that you're a Newfie, I don't want to needlessly remind a Newfie that he's a Newfie).

I'd be very curious at some point to explore the many things on which we disagree. (But now its time to head to a Chinese restaurant here in Halifax before I fly back to Calgary)

Oh and I'm quite fine being where I am from and probably get in more of a froth about the welfare trap and sense of entitlement of some people there than you ever would. So remind me or not but the reality is that most of my opinions have diverged so far from what appears to be the popular views within Newfoundland that my being a Newfie is rather irrelevant with respect to most of my views. With respect to Canadian geography, you are forced to live in Toronto and thats punishment enough for anyone.

I actually thought you were going to comment on how old I am-- after all I am beyond ancient .
