  • Not exactly. If a thread can continue with its original topic while maintaining some level of child's play, I usually let it live. But if the thread's topic is gone completely and all that remains is childishness, I will close it.

    • I tend to agree with Ming. (What have I become). After some discussion between mods. That thread re-opened.

To pick up on one point Lori made.

The "I don't know what they said, they are on my ignore list" post, being repeated dozens of times over dozens of threads is VERY BORING.

      • So the community that plays by the rules suffers by losing the thread, while the children who continue to play there silly games get to notch up another thread in the closed thread forum... seems fair

          • One suggestion. While i'm not a fan of the keeping the closed threads in the HOF section, I'll concede that it serves some value. But If you're going to do that, a simple post, explaining the reason, before closing and moving it there would be helpful. I figured (incorrectly) that it was closed for a different reason.

              This thread irritates me.

              • One option would be to split a thread, remove all the boring posts into a new thread and close that.

(or delete them, but I think deletion is extreme)

                • There are many times that that would sum it all up.

and while splitting is probably preferred, it requires effort. Why should mods be punished for the sins of the children?

                    • Thread deletions were just a couple of key strokes, which is why it was my prefered method. But, I can appreciate some of the alternatives.

                              • I'm also not a fan of thread or post deletions. Splitting boring posts off from an otherwise interesting thread is an idea I've thought about in the past, but it does require work and can be disconcerting to posters.

I nearly always post a message in a thread I'm about to close explaining the reason for the closure, but didn't this time because I was closing 6 threads and because I gave an explanation in the personal attack thread.
