seriously, how hard would it be to implement a ladder and leaderboard? it would be a good step to possibly attract people here.

granted, i'm wholly ignorant of such things, but if i could meet polytubbies for a few hours each week and crank out some cIV, i would (even though i'm horrible at it).

I only play against AI as well. It's a very, very bad idea to ever play head-to-head with the SO. We're both competitive. Somebody gets pissed, and there goes the evening.

Speaking as a CFCer, I can tell you that this is completely false.

"We're not allowed" -- are you all children? Is there a bedtime as well?

I'm happy with the way the OTF is. The changes you would make would ruin it. The OTF on Poly is vibrant and active. The problem with Poly is the on-topic side is virtually dead.

Poly's OFT is hardly vibrant and active compared to CFC's.

It eats up enough time of mine each day that if it was any more vibrant I'd probably lose my job.

Also, more activity does not mean vibrant. Most of the threads on that site are sleep-inducing (top 3 recent threads are about TV talent shows [I presume that ugly cow who never kissed anyone at 47], tea party protesters, and utility functions). Yeah, VIBRANT.

I tried posting at CivFanatics and no Poly for a month or so during one of my bannings. It killed me. I even participated in (and kicked ass in) their sad, sad fantasy hockey pool. There was practically birds chirping in their hockey threads as well, no one there seems to comprehend what sports are.

It's just a very different feel than Poly. It's cold and impersonal. Clinical, even.

I love it when people who don't normally post come to criticize and use it to justify why they don't normally post here. Hmmm, then why did they bother to post it.

I don't think it would be that bad of an idea to listen up why people didn't like your product and left.

CFC's off topic puts me to sleep. It reminds of Disneyland where all you keep hearing is "it's a small world" until you want to smash your head into a brick wall to make it stop, despite whatever damage you might take.

And yet Poly's OT is just as boring, only more rude and violent. Is there anything really interesting in another ME thread between Mobi and myself? Another gay/religion thread with BK? Another game-industry thread where LOTM and Asher call each other douche bags?

In the current atmosphere, no new discussion is possible, because within 2 pages, one of the trolls will come and the thread degenerate into the usual crap.

Yes, it provides high drama, like an episode of cops or a reality show about teen girls. But it isn't fun in the long run.

Modding like a NAZI is for lazy people. They don't want to think. Anything that might require thought, don't, just ban or delete, or close. (I can understand the concept) Yeah, we could be a tad more strict but it's no treat trying to keep up with all the threads. And you really have to get the feel for the entire thread before you make a decision about a single post. You can't take it out of context.

That's true, and I respect you for allowing many fun things to stay.

But the problem is that there is a difference between allowing a little friendly out-there idiotic jokes, and allowing people to hurl insults at one another.

Some of the abuse is playful, some of it is provoked, and sometimes it's a contest that BOTH posters are playing. I don't see the need to ban under some of those circumstances. AND PEOPLE USUALLY BACK DOWN A TOUCH WHEN WE POST A CHILL WARNING. It's not always black or white.

Yes, there is playful abuse, and you can usually spot it. And then there is just hateful name calling and its easy to spot too, and I don't think chill warnings are enough to contain it. People back down for a while, but the abuse is not deterred.

The message people getting is: I can run off my mouth, get a mere chill warning, after which I make a tactical pause. In the long run, it has a lot to do with making Poly more abusive than it should be, for general consumption.

Posting that incredibly long cat drawing on the other thread, that was annoying and disruptive, but also funny and not abusive. Having Asher, LOTM, Agathon, Mobius, Kid and myself calling each other names in the same old threads is abusive and not funny. Both type of events are treated the same - with a chill warning. And that is wrong, because they are on a different scale completely.
