I love it when people who don't normally post come to criticize and use it to justify why they don't normally post here. Hmmm, then why did they bother to post it.
CFC's off topic puts me to sleep. It reminds of Disneyland where all you keep hearing is "it's a small world" until you want to smash your head into a brick wall to make it stop, despite whatever damage you might take.

Modding like a NAZI is for lazy people. They don't want to think. Anything that might require thought, don't, just ban or delete, or close. (I can understand the concept) Yeah, we could be a tad more strict but it's no treat trying to keep up with all the threads. And you really have to get the feel for the entire thread before you make a decision about a single post. You can't take it out of context. It takes more effort than a lot of people realize. And yes we error on the side of being tolerant. SO sue me. And I will personally admit that sometimes it's tough to pull the ban trigger when you're LYAO. Some of the abuse is playful, some of it is provoked, and sometimes it's a contest that BOTH posters are playing. I don't see the need to ban under some of those circumstances. AND PEOPLE USUALLY BACK DOWN A TOUCH WHEN WE POST A CHILL WARNING. It's not always black or white. (unless you're a lazy nazi) Our way is harder on us also. We open the door to ctriticism. When you're a nazi, people don't bother complaining. That's not an problem here And we don't just take it from you guys, we have to take it from a few weeny on-topic mods that sometimes don't understand. (yes they make some good points but I do feel you have to be in the trenches being shot at before you can truely understand it)

So heap on some more abuse. We're used to it.

I dont necessarily agree with these assumptions, but accept that rah is most certainly entitled to his opinion I feel being a Moderator is about tolerance and moderation not about being a Nazi..and dont think rah meant all circumstances are handled this way


OFF-TOPIC POSTERS appear to want to have some leeway, be able to engage targets of opportunity without being shot by a tower guard..a.k.a. Nazi. Some however feel a few get away with too much. Some feel a personal stalking takes place when certain posters follow them from one thread to another


ON TOPIC POSTERS would like to see expanded game coverage, some tourneys, more MODS being displayed, to name a few items


Most everyone here is in agreement with the site improving, better than it was but needing some other improvements


My point has been met.

I see, based upon views posted, we will continue as is.

Apparently there's a lot of people -- mostly on-topicers we wouldn't even know -- who think that it's the way to go.

Hey, if you want your forum to continue dwindling down in popularity to a mere tight-nit group of 20-30 members or so, that's fine with me. The problem is that the niche for former-civ-players-who-want-to-insult-to-each-other is small, you're not obtaining new members, and people will leave or switch to CFC.

Most of us don't insult eachother. The people who are worthy of insult tend to leave.

Quality over quantity. AOL has more members than CFC, but you wouldn't catch me in an AOL Chatroom or a CFC chatroom...

What on earth gave you the idea that CFC's OT is formal and impersonal? It's neither. There are certainly some formal threads (which, like Ask a Theologian, are incredibly interesting) but there's quite a lot of informality, inside jokes and the like just like any other forum. Impersonal? Yeah, we're not allowed to make personal threads, but that certainly dosn't mean that we don't care for each other. There's groups of people within the forum who are pretty tight-nit. Yes, there's more than one group. #fiftychat alone (a chatroom for CFC OTers) has around 20-30 people, and we care for each other a lot. CFC has generated a hierarchy of peoples, well known posters, friends and meetups just like Apolyton has.

And sure, it's not your thing, but do you want a successfully run forum or not? You need rules such as a basic level of respect for the moderators, no personal attacks (which I see plenty of time here), and no spam in order to attract people to post on the forum other than a tight-nit group of people.

I'm happy with the way the OTF is. The changes you would make would ruin it. The OTF on Poly is vibrant and active. The problem with Poly is the on-topic side is virtually dead.
