Japan was beaten. It was just easier to nuke them plus it warned off the Russians.

Well, at least we don't have a British queen as a head of state.
With a better claim as a Ruirikid then anyone else currently alive.

So what? We will gladly depose her, arrest her, shoot her and burn the body if she decides this gives her a reason to rule Russia.
Wait, Rurukid, not Romanov? Care to back up your claim?

Russia's anti-ship missiles wouldn't stand a chance against stuff like this.

Depends on how soon it goes into mass production, how long can it keep its rate of fire, how it is mounted on the deck and how many missiles we fire.

              No, it sucks. Accept it.

Russia wastes its time in building up its conventional military. The only threat to Russian peace on its whole periphery is Russia itself. Onodera has the right idea, build missiles, mines, robots, satellites, and a few limited anti-terrorist units and let it go at that.

Metal Storm may be a good replacement for vulcan cannons, but it is still not demonstrated that it is easy to change rounds.

Metal Storm solves a less urgent problem - how to kill an enemy when you know where he is.

In today's wars, you usually have a very poor grip on where you enemy is, and all firing is done from a far.

So raining in a huge bunch of bullets is questionable - what if you missed your target? What if it moved? what if you need to reload, for a different target?

                    • That's a legitimate manner of deception, still used by many.

Worked like a charm in WWII. Also, reportedly, as late as Kosovo.

                      • True. It's actually pretty impressive.
I just love the comment by the end of the video: "Hitler and Napoleon both famously tried and failed to beat the Russian army. Now all you need is a pin"

I didn't like it because the comment is silly, and the commentator is obviously too dumb to realize, or too eager to make a cheap crack. The whole point is that instead of pins, NATO would use fancy and terribly expensive laser guided ammunition on fake targets.

Decoys are an important part of Ruski/Soviet defense tactics, and they work well. We don't know yet whether the west has good enough tools to see though them.

I'm not sure how would baloon decoys respond to different lengths of wavelengths that metal typically reflect.

                              • That would be impressive if they actually had the real weapons somewhere else.
