It's rather par for the course for the internet (in general) though. Poly (at least the OT and some other specific forums) has been on a long spiral down from it's position as a community for reasonably friendly and intelligent debate (always have been exceptions of course), to just another forum for mudslinging, ego posturing, and general immature outbursts... of which there are already countless examples on the net.

This is actually how Poly started out in the beginning. It's just returning full circle. When Orcus and werefox return it'll be complete.

Death threats aren't the issue. KH hit the nail on the head when he pointed out the googlestalking. If somebody says that they're going to tear off my head and **** down my neck, that just tells me that they're unoriginal and too dumb to realize it. If somebody starts talking about details of my personal life, that would freak me out, even if there weren't any overt threats.

Haven't there only been two permabans in Poly history? And those didn't even really stick.

yes this place was interesting because of all the egotistical Civ 2/SMAC players. Thats why i want a ladder tourny or some competitive aspect back here.
