Italian soda thread

So, spring is in the air! Yay! Birds are singing, the sky is a deep and dizzy cerulean, and the breezes are gentle and warm.

Leading me, naturally, to thoughts of religious perfidy Italian soda!

I got me the first such beverage of 2009 just today. Strawberry, peach, and vanilla. The barista remembered me from last year as one of his biggest soda fans but couldn't recall the third ingredient.

What other flavors are good? I will work my way through them with scientific rigor in the coming warm weather months!

Once again we have proof that, while the female eye can distinguish over 254 different colors, the male eye can distinguish only eight. The male word for "cerulean" is "blue."

I've seen somewhere that the male eye has difficulty spotting boats as well.

Just had a second one. Watermelon, coconut, and lime. Sharper, more tart.

Orange and vanilla work well, and probably adding in Peach wouldn't hurt that any if you insist on 3 flavors. Or orange+vanilla French soda, even better...

I don't get them often, but at least twice when I have gotten them they have been completely awesome.

Actually, this discussion is also relevant to my kitchen interests too. I'm making a fair bit of fruit compote at home, and I'm experimenting with what fruits reduce well with each other.

When I used to live in Santa Barbara I'd get a lot of hazelnut Italian sodas. I'd take the train home once or twice a month and right next to the train station was a place which sold Italian sodas. I honestly haven't had one in years though.
