  • What are you eating for Easter?

Growing up normally my mother would make salmon cooked on a cedar plank (you soak the cedar plant, put the stuffed salmon on the plank, and then BBQ the whole thing) though my grandmother would cook stuffed goose. This year my girlfriend and I are thinking about having Easter with just the two of us because I can't stand my dad's girlfriend while her family lives back east so that means I'd be left with most of the cooking as my girlfriend doesn't like cooking while I do (or at least I like to BBQ and roast things). Any suggestions?

Well, first of all, you need to celebrate Easter a week later than most do, which is the correct date this year. You don't actually believe in Jesus, so it's a moot point, but I just thought I'd throw it out there. As for the actual meal, we usually have ham, extremely rich Russian Paska bread smeared with even richer Russian Pashka cheese, kielbasa and some wine. There should probably be a vegetable somewhere in there--oh, bread and butter pickles. That's what we usually put in for the "pickled vegetable" component of the traditional Orthodox Paschal basket. I forgot about 'em since I usually stick to the meats and cheeses. You can add some red-dyed hard boiled eggs, but I think hard boiled eggs are nasty myself.

I'm trying to get away from red meats and trying to cook more seafood for my protein intake.

There were two types whole fish on sale at the nearby supermarket. I brought them back yesterday and intend to steam one tonight in light soy sauce with ginger, garlic, and chopped spring onions. The other I'll see about pan-frying tomorrow night.

My roommate is very happy that I love cooking

If there's one thing that Russians and pseudoRussians know how to do, it's paint easter eggs

We don't really have a tradition. My family did the easter candy and stuff, but I'm not sure what we will do this year. I'll be going to the easter vigil, which I love, and sleeping in.

Did Jesus sleep in on Easter Sunday?
