I'm sitting at a $1-$3 NL Hold 'Em table, second to act, the guy under the gun folds. I look down and see A-8 suited. Assuming I have a stack of about $300, roughly average for the table of ten players, and I've already gone once around and have tossed absolute rags so far, what should be my play?

Depends on how agressive the table is. If they're raising significantly (~15$) preflop on a pretty regular basis then you should fold. If not then a call is not that bad an idea.

I have a contract with the military for the next 3 years. Which is great in this economy and all, and I move to an position that will give me an interesting field to work on - that unites enviroment and the economy.


I am in the process of getting an MBA to compliment my B.Sc. in chemistry. I got a 690 in my GMAT, that should get me in rather prestigious bussiness schools around the world. but I cannot, since I am in Israel with the military contract.

A)stay with the rather crappy MBA I get here and later work on Master's degree in science/Engineering.
B) ditch the crappy MBA, and move direct to the science/engineering degree.
C) **** MBAs, be a scientist like you always wanted to!

p.s. ( MBA degrees are rather bull****, IMO, and only the name counts, but that's why it's so important to have a good name on the diploma)

Get work experience in a specialized field before you do an MBA. BSc + MBA = BS.

I have work experience, in PMing developement and logistics. Soon switching to an enviroment field ( I am doing the MBA as a part-time program)

I got invites by e-mail to check out EHDEC in france and Stanford in the US, but I don't know what this means.

690 is only top 10 percent. The median GMAT for Harvard is 720. You probably need something special in addition to your GMAT to get into one of the top 5 programs. I'm not sure if anything else is worthwhile.

690 is slightly below average for the top B-schools. Harvard's middle 50% ranges from 700 to 750; Columbia's average is 710.

I'd imagine it would depend greatly on what kind of graduate program you're applying for.

MBA schools bring in people with all different backgrounds and a fair amount with US military experience. It's not so much about youre specific experience, but abiout having done something so that when you are in teams working on cases, you can contribute real life analagous learnings...not just crunch the case.
