I see the lions of England, the lion of Scotland, the fleur de lis of France [i.e. Quebec], the shamrocks of Ireland...and isn't the harp also Ireland?? But what happened to the dragon of Wales?
The dragon of Wales has never been used on the English arms.

Interestingly, it's not quite the same, but very similar to the British Arms after James VI, which has all the elements, but changes the divisions to England in the upper corner and France to the lower corner, rather then divided into eights as his arms were.

It represents the Canadian heritage of England, Scotland, Ireland in English Canada, and France with the Fleur de lis for Quebec.

A similar reference is to "Thistle, Shamrock, Rose, entwined." The standard imagery for English Canada has always been between the English, Scots and Irish.

But why the shamrock AND the harp? Is this for the Catholic Irish and Protestant Irish?

          Shamrocks don't have five-lobed leaves.

In days of yore, from Britain's shore,
              Wolfe, the dauntless hero came,

              And planted firm Britannia's flag,
              On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave, our boast, our pride,
              And joined in love together,
              The thistle, shamrock, rose entwine
              The Maple Leaf forever!

They are both symbols of Ireland.

The Harp of Ireland, is generally used as a formal symbol to depict Ireland, whilst the Shamrock on the other hand, is generally viewed as a more informal national emblem(much like the usage of the color green).

I think Asher would agree that this is the best Canadian flag:

I always liked the look of the old red ensign, though not nearly as much as the maple leaf. I'm not too worried about being disarmed by the governemnt either, i can't really imagine that the army and the police combined would have enough manpower to disarm the entire populous. Hell, they have enough trouble with the gangs in TO, Montreal, the Peg and Vancouver, let alone the number of hunters and farmers in the country. And its going to get pretty costly if we keep switching between the Royal army/navy/air force and DND every 10 years, even just switching over their stationary. Might as well pick one and stick with it.
It is nice to see the Queen's portrait around occasionally though. My tiny hometown arena has a giant portrait of her beside the scoreboard that looks fairly majestic.

All in all, were not doing too bad. I can't complain

And according to queens coat of arms we were a pine tree back in the day. Also nothing welsh in there either.

For there to be a Canadian nationalist there has to be a Canadian nation.

I can let the gay marriage thing go as long as you guys keep up a respectable divorce rate like the rest of us. Can't have yous showing the straights up now can we?

Gay marriage, is and always will be an ABOMINATION in the eyes of God. Any nation, which chooses gay marriage, has chosen to abandon its morals!

You can still only marry one person. Canada will remain a totalitarian state until the day when you can marry as many people as you want.
