  • GOP = The Grand Obstructionists Party

For the last four months, Democrats and Republicans have been working together to write the Bush Administration's last spending bill. It was due to come up for a vote tomorrow, the last day the govt is authorized to spend money.

Upon looking at the bill--which they helped write--Republicans have suddenly noticed earmarks that they put in there. "Oh, oh, oh!" they cry. "Wasteful spending! Wasteful spending!" You think they might have noticed that while they were writing it.

Well, they're now refusing to vote for it. And their "outrage" has even spooked a few Democrats into joining them.

Of course, as usual, Republicans have no alternative plan. All they know how to do is say, "No." And we're faced with another financial crisis, courtesy of the GOP.

The funny part is the GOP only makes up 40% of the Congress but got 52% of the earmarks. Gee, if they're so against earmarks why do they always seem to lard up so much for their own districts. I honestly laughed my ass off when I heard them trying to say their earmarks weren't pork but any earmarks by the other party are pork.

I've learned to expect hypocracy from Congress. But it's infuriating when the hypocracy reams the country over.

Yes, but they've also got Wall Street joining them. Together may just yet turn this recession into the next Great Depression.

Why should either party abandon its principles in pursuit of common ground? Wouldn't that the need for the other party?

This problem would be easily solved if Obama would just go line-by-line through the budget to remove earmarks like he promised to do during his campaign.

Evidently some saintly democrats voted for it.

Principles?? For the last four months, the Repugs have been loading this bill up with earmarks. And now they claim to be shocked, shocked that there are earmarks in this bill.

If they'd been fighting this all along, I'd respect their position. But when they do an eleventh-hour about-face on a critical bill for some phoney baloney rationale, they prove that Congressional Repugs have no principles.

Considering that nothing gets passed without the approval of the One or the Democrat party, what's the issue here?

Why don't they just excise the earmarks?

This whole thread is really pointless. The GOP doesn't have the power to stop the Dems from passing their agenda, so *****ing about how obstructionist the Republicans are is laughable.

They have the power to filibuster which is what they're currently promising to do to EVERY SINGLE ONE of Obama's judicial nominees. What happened to their claims that every nominee deserves a fair up or down vote?
