It was really good. Rorschach was a great character.
Anyone else think that Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Comedian) looks like a cross between Robert Downey Jr. and Javier Bardem?
And indeed there will be time To wonder, "Do I dare?" and, "Do I dare?". t s eliot

Rorschach obviously stole the movie. The audience in my theater went ape**** every time he was onscreen. The Comedian was also a scene stealer.

Well, they are the most "anti-hero" of the characters, which is ironic in a way, as the "villain" is more of anti-hero himself.

And you're right, 49er. That is exactly what he looks like. I had Downey Jr., but couldn't figure out who else he looked like.

Never read the book (actually just got it yesterday from Amazon), but just saw the movie. Very, very well done . I was skeptical about the length, but it didn't seem that long at all and they needed all that time to tell the story full, with the flashbacks and what not to build up the world.

Hmm, they obviously don't know how to behave in a movie theatre. It's so irritating when people can't behave during a movie.

You can enjoy a movie without ruining the experience for those around you.

I saw it, an enjoyed it. But Goddamn it was long. I knew halfway through that people who hadn't read the graphic novel would probably be annoyed and getting ready to leave.

But, very true(ish) to the comic.

So, basically you were too stupid to get the comic?

I liked it. I was amazed how true it kept to the book. Same lines in many places, exact same scenes as well. I just finished reading the book through for the first time on Thursday and saw the movie on Friday, so everything was fresh in my mind. I really liked that.

I'd probably go 3 out of 4 stars. I do have some complaints. First of all, it was way more violent than necessary. Some of the fight scenes just went on longer than they needed to, and I could tell were just thrown in for antsy movie goers expecting a typical super hero movie. And I don't at all blame them for it. But still, my gf (who hadn't read the comics) felt the movie was more of a horror movie at times because of the violence.

I also think the ending was botched.

                            Spoiler:
I don't think the movie did enough to convey the sense of a world on the brink of destruction. It was more prominent in the comic, and I think it is necessary for the ending to make sense. Considering the cold war is now over, this end of the world feeling is less intuitive now than in 1985, so if anything this should have been emphasized *more* in the movie, not less.

Plus I *hated* Adrian. He was very cartoony. The end especially he seemed very much a run of the mill comic book villain. Which wasn't that strange, since he never came off as much of a hero earlier in the book either. He came across as somewhat sinister early on, and then it just became obvious at the end. So with all the evil villain stuff when the ending finally happens it just seems confusing. My gf was confused. She understood it, but it was still confusing. (if that makes any sense). This was made worse by the Owl's reaction to the ending. Rage, not acquiescence.

I didn't mind replacing the Cthulu thing with Dr. Manhattan. I just don't think the build up to it really set the right tone at all.

On the whole though, still a very good movie.

I think Nik is referring more to people loudly "interacting" during the movie -- advising the characters (talking to the screen!), criticizing/discussing things with their friends ("Wasn't she in 24?" "I thought they killed him!"), talking on cellular, etc.

Sure it's a shared social experience, but it's not a frat party. There are definitely limits of acceptable behavior.
