Gee, I have to agree with Agathon. I gave the common man a lot more credit until the internet showed me otherwise. I grew up generally in the vanilla villages, so most of the people I associated with were normal middle class folks with a reasonable ammount of common sense. Not everyone was brilliant, but there wasn't the rash of stupidity I see everytime I go on-line these days.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I have learned what the internet is for:

This space is empty... or is it?

As far as I'm concerned, that's one of the least rational groups out there. I don't understand why the idealistic twenty three year old is the one with the least faith in humanity's supposed rationality. I guess it pays to be raised with a healthy dose of cynicism.

You're only 23. That makes you about 7 years old when I first went on the internet, and about 10 when it started becoming widespread in my community.

You couldn't even get foreign papers in my town until 1990.

When you are raised in it, you get used to or don't really notice the stupidity of your own society/culture. Then a dose of the internet reveals the idiosycracies of the rest of humanity. This makes you feel a little crazy and very contemptuous. Eventually, this process allows you to see the foibles of your birth culture. Hopefully, this is followed by the wisdom to recognize how wonderful (multivariate for you scientist types) most folk are despite their stupidity.

The internet allows this learning process to start earlier for the current generation. However, I don't know that the wisdom will settle in at an earlier age. The current generation may just be crazier for a longer time.

That school zones are from 8-5 only and I can appeal my ticket. Bastard cop pulls me over for doing 51 in a "school zone". 200 dollar fine 'for the children'.

There's ignorance, and then there's irrationality. To be honest, I often feel like doing a Blake, but I can't because of my job.

Yea, Body Count was a pretty good band. I saw them with Guns n' Roses and Metallica.

I learned that a little anonymity can lead to a lot more ends than originally thought.

I learned that Oerdin is made out of cheese.

I learned that the world is a lot smaller than it seems.

I learned that if you ask a seemingly random, but definitive, question on the internet you get a larger variety of responses.

I guess this kind of talk is what Rah was talking about.

I could have told you that!. I owned that first uncut album on cassette. Unfortunately I accidently left it behind when I moved from Virginia.

But thanks to the powers of the internet, I now have it on my hard drive.
