I didn't attend my grad ceremony. I put myself through school, so there were no outside expectations. Couldn't see the point.

Peter Ustinov was chancellor of Durham University when I graduated. He gave a really good speech - very wry and witty. He was already very elderly when he did that, and a few short years later, he was gone. I was very happy to get to hear him speak.

Jim Henson spoke at my graduation from the University of Maryland. He talked about how he worked his way through Maryland doing local cartoon shows and commercials, developing his characters and techniques long before anybody knew what a Muppet was. Great speech from a guy who is greatly missed.

My graduation was like the first one ever to be rained out or something like that.

I think the person did speak for a bit, I don't remember it though, I just remember walking in circles in the hockey area (well, it didn't have the ice in it), soaked, waiting for my name to be called.

I was history and international relations. I'm not bitter about it, though; I look forward to serving my science degree-holding superiors.
This is the reason I think liberal arts types are teh supa smart. We should be serving our science degree-holding superiors, but it never works out that way. The President isn't a physicist, he's a lawyer. And the one before him was an MBA. And before him, another lawyer.

Until the science types finish "THE BOMB!"

We had Fab from Milli Vanilli speak at my graduation (he's not the one who killed himself though that would have been cooler). When he got to the podium he started mouthing words but didn't say anything, it took about 30 seconds for everyone to get it. Then he did this dance and said "You're graduating! Girl you know it's true!" and my life was complete.

I didn't go to my graduation ceremony. I was on the other side of the country by the time it happened. Unlike arts graduates, I had a job before I graduated and as soon as I finished my last exam I was on a plane to start my job.

The fact that MBAs and lawyers are dumb enough to get into politics is not a feather in your cap. Especially our most recent 2-term president...

You should have had a job to put yourself through College
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

If you'd gone to a real school, you could've found a job in a city that wasn't thousands of miles away.

I could've, and I did have an offer in that city, but the SO was finishing school out on the east coast so I'm out here til he finishes in a few months.

I only had to work in the summer to put myself through college...you can make a pretty penny doing freelance software development. On top of scholarships, it's pretty easy to pay your way through.

You were smart to take the job in the T-dot. Calgary's no place to be.
