  • Graduation Speakers

I just found out that Brent Scowcroft will be giving the address at my graduation ceremony in May. I also just came in my pants.

Who spoke at your university graduation? Anyone good? Or someone you don't even remember the name of like the guy who spoke at my undergrad graduation?

Larry King spoke at my graduation, it was pretty cool and he gave an awesome speech.

i can neither remember the name of the guy at my graduation nor recall a single detail of what he said.

I have graduated from college yet, but Mark Warner was the keynote speaker at my HS graduation. He was pretty good.

I'd normally disparage Mark Warner in comparison to Larry King and Brent ****in' Scowcroft, but that's actually a really impressive get for a high school.

Probably the least impressive thing about my high school

since when do colleges have graduation ceremonies?
                  Unbelievable!

Melvyn Bragg was my university's (honorary) chancellor when I graduated, but most fortunately he was off filming some rubbish South Bank Show at the time of my ceremony.

If I ever went back for a master's or a PhuD, then I wouldn't bother going to the ceremony. A complete waste of time.

I was thinking about skipping mine, but I have to go now to try and touch Scowcroft.

I wouldn't know, it all sounds like the sort of obnoxious circle-jerk I'd never bother to investigate. Undergrad's merely a vehicle to get that pathetically unmarketable piece of toilet paper in-hand to start grad school, nothing to celebrate.

IIRC, we had the FBI Director at the time. Louis Freeh.

I don't remember anything that he said.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
