He shot him in the center of the chest, you could see the bullet hole, though there was no blood. I suppose that Ben might have put on something to act like a bullet-proof vest, but I doubt it. Remember that Locke apparently can't be killed or even remain dead on the island. Maybe Ben is like Locke.

I'm with the Doc on this one. He's probably still alive (Faraday said that you couldn't change the past, remember) and the island will make sure of that.

NGR, whatever happened, happened. Sayid has always shot Ben. Next week we'll probably see how Jack saves the little bastard. Still, my brain has melted.

Ben stays alive, of course - and from his perspective, he had always known that Sayid shot him. Which puts quite a twist on Ben telling Sayid that he's a killer. And it would be classic Lost-style if Ben used to be a nice kid before that and only became what he is because of being shot by Sayid. Where the hell did they put Faraday, though? It's one of those things I lost track of, are we supposed to know where he is?

He might be digging out the Orchid, like we saw him in the first scene of the season. Or maybe he went total bug**** after seeing young Charlotte.


An opposing thought to the "whatever happened, happened" theory: did you guys notice the subtle change to the dock scene that we saw yet again tonight? Sayid's line changed; he only pointed to Ben, instead of Ben and Jack. Given that we've already seen that scene, what, three times?, a sudden continuity error seems unlikely. Maybe the future has been changed somehow.

Well there was the whole Desmond/Mrs. Hawkings situation and the Desmond/Charlie situation.

There was no evidence that Desmond couldn't have chosen to ask Penny to marry him. Mrs. Hawking just told him that that's not what he was supposed to do and he eventually decided not to of his own accord.

As for Charlie, that was evidence that you can't delay someone's fate forever, not that you can't change the past.

True, but from the way Mrs. Hawking talked it suggested that everything was predetermined. If the past is the part of the purpose of the person then it would seem the universe would course correct when the past tries to change. Of course there is no way of knowing if Desmond just choice not to marry Penny or it was the universe course correcting.

Anyone else notice that the next episode is titled "Whatever Happened, Happened"? Seems like a clear endorsement of Faraday's theory until you look at the date that it's airing...
