I don't think the US has really had an old school conservative since Coolidge

        Ike?
He continued all the major New Deal programs. Hardly conservative.

Harding was definitely a conservative. After conservativism utterly failed he flailed around a bit trying to find a solution to the depression but he came in and governored like a conservative until late 1930.

Are you think about reactionary or conservative?

Is the economy fixed yet? What's Obama waiting for?

I was excited during the prez race- but that's more for entertainment purposes. As I like a good campaign (kinda like a good football game). Now it's politics as usually.

I'm bothered my mother has turned into an Obama fanatic. And she watches MSNBC . *sigh*. She just left a message saying she sent his speech. I can care less about his speech. It's the same stuff he was saying during campaigning. Responsibility blah blah blah. I hate to see her setting herself up for disappointment.

I've heard a few times the economy is bigger than the president. And there's little a prez can do to improve (or crash) an economy. Although huge deficit spending didn't help Bush out. Either way I think Obama's chances at rebounding the economy are slim to none. Democrats are so corrupt, and she goes how he's going to get rid of corruption in today's speech. Ya right. When democrats get rid of corruption, would be like the day I find a girlfriend. Never. I hate to see her swith sides and think democrats will be any better than repugs. They aren't.

So we've changed colors of crap. That's the most I expect from any political party.

I was tired of the the old crap, bigtime.

Polls show that most Americans are willing to give Obama time to improve the economy. No one is expecting a sudden miracle, but they now have hope that things can get better.

Reagan ran deficits by cutting taxes on the assumption (correct), that they would be paid off.

We never paid off the extra debt taken on during the Reagan years. That's part of the problem.

As for the tax cuts = more revenue Republican orthodoxy, hah. That *can* be the case if the rates are very high. But there is a point where cutting them more isn't going to help. The highest income tax rates are, what, 28% now (and 25%/33% or somesuch for capital gains?)? Ronnie was cutting from a MUCH higher level.

To put it another way, Ben, if cutting taxes always resulted in increased revenue, we could cut everyone's taxes to 1% and get all the money Obama wants to spend on fiscal stimulus, green energy investment, healthcare, etc. Yay, magic! Voodoo, even.
