  • What can I talk to about with a hot art history major?

I usually get by with women by being the "intellectual type", it gives me a reasonable succes ratio with the right kind of women (I have rather high standards and intelligence is one of the key criteria, also College girls are fun ). This one seems to fit the bill... I mean she actually showed some interest in some science & geeky stuff(tm), but what I really need is a bit of conversational material to show that I am at least making an effort. I get philo, history, sociology, literature and , and can even make a few inside jokes in those fields. I can thus stop mocking those people once I it becomes rude and unfunny to coutinue. I can't seem to be able to do the same with art & art history majors so....

Any ideas? I know a bit about art and about art theory but... what I really need is a bit of help talking to her.

Any idea on possible comfort material?

I got by two phone conversations by redirecting to our common interests and some non-sequitor flirting and teasing. Overall I got the impression that it was "on", but I'm terrified of the next call (If she calls again tonight I'll probably ignore it and call her back when I get some material). She seems quality, GF material, I wouldn't need help if all was interested in was something short term. Please guys, sometimes the people on this forum have suprised me in good ways, help make this one of those times.

Edited: typo in title Can a mod fix that please?

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

I'd just ask her to talk about what she wants to talk about. Then just sit back, and go along with it.

If you're serious about the girl, don't lie. If you don't know something about art history that she wants to talk about, let her show off how smart she is by explaining it. Then flip it around, and restate it in your own way to show you're paying attention. Get her to think that you respect her intelligence and that you're a good listener, and she'll be eating out of your hand.

Just don't wind up being a platonic friend. That's no good at all.

? If you need help thinking of things to say, is that really "GF material"? I'd just be honest and admit I knew nothing about her major. I rather liked the one art history class I took though. Do you like art of any kind? Flip through some art books and see what you like. Try to figure out why it appeals to you, then discuss it with her. You can learn a lot about someone from the kind of art she likes. For example, if she likes Warhol she's a pretentious phony and you should ditch her.

It always works well for me to berate their field of study.

Show her pictures drawn by a child and say "Pop quiz, when did I draw this?"

            Repeatedly and randomly.

Pop quiz. How predictable is Asher?

Answer: So predictable, that everyone knew he wouldn't pass up a chance here to bash art majors in this thread.

Ask her about herself. What is her favorite medium of art, artist, musician, movie, etc.

Every now and then ask her what she's wearing.

                  Does she have any pets?

How many mommies does she have?

Did she ever go through that "curious" time in college with her dorm mate or some other chick, and would she care to elaborate?

Tell her you're a pediatrician, chicks love that.

                  What's her favorite food.

If she could live on any planet what planet would she live on? I'd live on the Sun!

To be fair, I did say berate their profession, regardless of what it is.

For instance, I would berate your profession also. I would tell you "Lincoln's dead, get over it".

I think Felch gave the best advice. You don't need to show that you already know about her chosen fields of study as long as you show you are willing to let her teach you herself, and that you listen and respect her.

Sorry, I forgot this wasn't an American college. Any American college student, male or female, who you can't burn 20 minutes with discussing college football is not worth your time.

Though since you are European, soccer

In any case, why discuss what she is studying? If anything I try not to bring up school/work/politics/religion on the first dates or whatever because honestly I am there to have fun as she is also presumably.

Art history major = future money hole

She won't make you any money, but she'll spend all of yours.

                            Avoid.
