  • Foreign papers are writing about it and CNN is taking polls on the issue. You don't get much more coverage than that, especially for a story that hasn't had any new revelations in a while.

Naked Gents Rut hits horse**** motherlode.
Yes, my collection of linked news articles is "horse****."

The issue isn't writing about the Blago scandal, but specifically some sort of inordinate media heat on Emanuel thanks to his not holding a presser. There's ZERO evidence this is a factor.

Both the front web pages for CNN and MSNBC are devoid of any stories on Blago, much less Emanuel.

Your fervent hope this would somehow be a big problem for Emanuel or Obama has come to naught. It's OK, man, maybe next time.

        • Considering his continued high approval ratings in the midst of this and the lack of substantial negative fallout for them, I'd say they were doing just fine. The only real thing a PE has to do is get good marks on his appointments, and so far he's getting those.

          • Boris could you get Rahm to give me a call and let me know what the going rate is for patronage appointments?

            • Blog was pissed because the Obama people offered zero. So maybe that's your answer. OMG, you have to get an appointment based on merit!

Rahm said for you, you'll have to suck his ****, and then he'll think about it. He said your practice in the Navy should make it a really good hummer, though.

Exclusive: Obama's Blago Report: Only One Rahm Call to Governor
                  December 21, 2008 9:26 AM

Sources tell me that the Obama team's review of contacts with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich will show that Rahm Emanuel had only one phone conversation with Blagojevich.

The contact, described as a "pro-forma" courtesy call, came as Emanuel was named Chief of Staff for Obama. Most of the discussion concerned Emanuel's Congressional seat (which had previously been held by Blagojevich), with only a "passing reference" to the Senate vacancy, according to these sources. No deal for the Senate vacancy was discussed.

Speculation in Washington and Chicago has been swirling for a week now over what the Obama team’s report would find. Until now, the contents of that report have been kept sealed, at the request of the U.S. Attorney’s office. Last Wednesday, Obama said he found it “a little bit frustrating” that the report had not yet been released.

The sources add that the report will show Emanuel also had four phone calls with Blagojevich Chief of Staff John Harris. During those conversations, the Senate seat was discussed. The pros and cons of various candidates were reviewed, and the sources say that Emanuel repeatedly reminded Harris that Blagojevich should focus on the message the pick would send about the governor and his administration.

Sources also confirm that Emanuel made the case for picking Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett during at least one of the conversations. In the course of that conversation, Harris asked if in return for picking Jarrett, "all we get is appreciation, right?" "Right," Emanuel responded.

Bottom line: these sources say that Obama's report, which is expected to be released this week, will confirm what Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald and President-Elect Obama have said -- and what Governor Blagojevich clearly believed: that Obama officials were not open to any kind of deal for the Obama Senate seat.

From Boris Godunov's post above, it looks as if your wish was granted. :desire:

                    • Boris is just repeating old news. We've known for days that the official Obama report and sources within the investigation are at odds about how many times Emanuel contacted Blagojevich or his staff.

This is quite inaccurate, and I wonder if it's on purpose or just out of ignorance. First, there's no reason to believe the Sun Times reporting is accurate yet, since it has no substantiation, so nothing of the kind is "known." And the sources are not "within" the investigation, they are, as far as we know, aides to Blago. No one from Fitzgerald's office has made any indication about the number of contacts.

                          • President-elect Barack Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel had direct conversations with Gov. Rod Blagojevich about Obama's replacement in the US Senate, FOX News Chicago reports.

Citing "a source familiar with the investigation," Fox says that Emanuel had "multiple conversations" with Blagojevich and his chief of staff John Harris, who was also arrested Tuesday on federal corruption charges, about the seat and that they we're "likely recorded and in FBI possession."

Somehow I doubt Blago's aides are "familiar with the investigation." Sigh...

                            • "Familiar with" is so vague a term that it could mean them, as they'd be "familiar" if they were interviewed, or talked to someone who was interviewed, etc.

Nowhere there or in the Sun times does it say "within," so we have no idea WHO these sources are and what their credibility is.
