  • What does he have to say that won't be a part of the internal review? I don't see why the transition team would want individuals talking to the press about it when they're preparing to release their more formal investigation. If Fitz doesn't want the Obama team to release anything yet, it makes sense the same request would apply to Emanuel.

Politicians talk to the press without actually saying anything all the time. I don't understand why they don't just let Rahm hold a press conference to deny everything, if only to placate the media.

      • People are going to accuse him of hiding stuff regardless. Why waste the time/energy on the press conference for an individual, when they've already issued a blanket denial?

        • Because ducking the press makes it look like you're actually hiding something instead of just being accused of it.

The Obama camp has issued a blanket denial, I think that pretty much suffices as far as necessary denials go.

They got burned a little on the Axelrod statement, so I'm not surprised they're insisting on total discipline and keeping talking about it limited to the official statements that have been approved for release by Fitzgerald's office. Nobody wants to step on the toes of an ongoing criminal investigation, either.

Obviously not, given that the press is still hounding them over it.

              • Which just shows that even with denials, the press hounds. It's what they do. Every single member of the Obama team could issue individual denials, and they'd still hound.

They aren't suffering any sort of blowback over the Blago issue, so they have zero reason to rock the boat and do anything differently. If nitpickers want to fret of over a specific individual who isn't suspected of doing anything wrong coming forward and doing what has already been done at a higher level, then I say let them fret away.

Pissing off the press before you're even inaugurated would seem like something best avoided.

Good one... not exactly a shocker, but that's impressive even for Illinois. You'd think the other side (the Republicans, or the Madigans, or ...) would've already noticed this, though, if it were true...

I don't think they're in danger of this. All signs point to a rather extended honeymoon.

                      • Keep thinking that. The economy alone will be enough to keep the honeymoon period short.

                        • In terms of the media coverage, I think it will pretty long. After all, wasn't the media in his pocket all through the campaign?

I remember all the dire predictions about how the media would turn on him any minute once they discovered...whatever it was that was to be discovered.

                          • There's no need to fawn over him anymore if he going to treat them like ****. They already got him elected.

                            • Is there any difference between how he's treating them now as opposed to before?

Compared to the last 8 years, Obama could **** in their sundaes and they'd be content. It took the media 5 years to finally turn on Bush, after all.

Christ what a lame copout... note that the above quote is applicable to just about any politician under any circumstances, anywhere, ever. Scrutiny is the name of the game in politics, so he should just butch up or back out.
