    I understand the theory behind it, but I also understand I've not seen a single real world result that matches that. In fact, the "USA USA" article originally referenced about how they dropped 6 of these is notable for not mentioning how many tanks it destroyed. If it was an impressive number, they surely would've mentioned it.

      There's no reason to be sending pilots out in planes, or even tanks with people, given today's technology.

        Why? What's the point of giving away information on the lethality of your new cluster bomb in the press?

        Your country would be smart if it introduced more un-manned combat vehicles with more capabilities.
        This is already being done.

            You tell me, because that's precisely what the military did here, but without the details of just how successful?

            Not nearly fast enough. The Predator is pathetic. It can be so much more, easily.

            The problem is really that the military contractors, like General Dynamics, pay **** salaries for engineers. That's why you've got such **** reliability with military systems and slow technological developments, especially with high-tech stuff like unmanned vehicles.

            I hear they actually use Xbox 360 controllers for some unmanned recon drones now... :dies:

                  That's not a good answer. It doesn't really speak to my question. I'm well-aware of what gurrilla warfare is, and this cite doesn't have to do with endangering innocents.

                      We also use civilian mouse models for our military computers!

                      Is there a particular reason we are required to expensively reinvent a control method when one that apparently meets all requirements is already available?

                          Not to mention they are grossly overpriced for the hardware. It's a profit vehicle for MS...

                          As any PC gamer will tell you, the Xbox 360 controller is not precise enough for anything serious. Killing people qualifies as pretty serious.

                            It is only logical for guerilla fighters to hide in cities or densely populated settlements. If they were to await American jet fighters in the open desert they would be quite stupid, isn't it?

                                That's a really disturbing post. You know well enough that it is nigh impossible to prosecute the Israeli, American or even a dictatorship army. Therefore a ban is the only solution for this type of dreadful weapons.

                                Furthermore clustermunition never has a 100% success rate. A good portion doesn't explode when hitting the ground. Many people are killed or severely injured months or even many years after the bombs have been dropped. Like anti-personnel mines, that is why this weaponry should be banned.

                                You say Israel have not used them properly, but let's not be naïve. Clusterbombs are often used like that. Every so often Palestinian kids get torn apart by Israeli clustermunition still lying around on fields or areas where those kids go to play. Same thing in Lebanon.

                                You do know that it's other countries who clean up this awful mess right? Belgian UN troops for example are still in the process of removing the massive clustermunition spread out all over the south of Lebanon just before the end of the last war. A few months ago one of them even got killed on the job. The cost of removing it, and the economic consequences of farmland and other areas that can't be used is enormous. I wouldn't mind Israel cleaning it up themselves, or at least paying us to do their dirty work.

                                But you know as well as I do that's never going to happen.
