Well, their mom seems to have been more protective, so they probably didn't do the whole package
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

        What bollocks.

        Let kids be kids.

Don't make them grow up too fast, let them enjoy the wonder of childhood.

        Children are NOT adults.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I'm wondering just how ****ed up Ozzy's childhood was. He's still in his rebellion phase well into his 20s? 30s?

Totally agree. Childhood christmas memories still touch me now, and the coloured lights on a cold winter night help bring those back with a smile. At that tender age the line between reality and fantasy is indistinct, and the joy of the belief in magic and wonder is a perfectly healthy aspect of imaginative development.

In its own way, growing up past the belief in these things is a wonder too, and in no way is it damaging to discover the truth.

As a kid, I always thought that it was adults that believed in Santa Claus and I shouldn't ruin their cherished illusions by not playing along.

Santa is more like the personification or guardian spirit of christmas.

I don't think that anyone but the most gullible kids think that there are really elves pounding out Wii's in some arctic workshop.

Are we really so grown up as a species that we've lost the need for all our little spirits and household gods?

I guess I'm just a pagan at heart.

There is nothing bad about fantasy - kids will pick that up from the culture without help from anyone, and if they do, there is no particulalr harm in allowing the belief for a few years.

That said, I personally would not be the first one to tell them about Santa, and I wouldn't feel bad if they never did believe in him, or any other fantasy creature. They will have plenty of fantasies anyways, like thinking life in fair and such.

Did a gang of Salvation Army Santa's beat you up when you were a kid?

I don't know anybody who is emotionally damaged from when they found out Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy aren't real.
