      Independence Day.
Breakfast Club: Not my cup of tea, but it was a well made film, I can see how others like it.
Rocky III: Mr. T. That is all you need to know. I saw it again on cable a week or two ago, forgot the part where Clubber propositions Adrian. Clubber Lang
Major League: A tentative Been years since I've seen it, but I remember liking it.

Although I'm not embarrassed to like it (alot), most people consider it a terrible dissapointment.
I think most people failed to realize it was satirical. It was an excellent satirical movie .

Starship Troopers is one fine specimen of unintended critique and satire.

It can't possibly have been intended if it was made by Verhoeven. Even his movie about the Dutch resistance during WW2 was mostly rememberable because of the scenes that featured sex or violence.

Since when are Verhoeven and intended satire mutually exclusive? Robocop has been repeatedly lauded for its subtle critique of American culture in the Reagan years, and even the news reports at the beginning of Total Recall were noticeably satirical of modern TV news' deceptive jingoism.

I don't see how it's unlikely that he'd have continued this pattern in Starship Troopers. In fact, I can't think of a single moment in that entire movie where it seemed like the creators were taking it very seriously.

Or for that matter, Verhoeven aside, since when are gratuitous violence and satire mutually exclusive? You can't tell me movies like "Shoot 'em Up" take themselves seriously. Hell, even Pulp Fiction felt like a parody at times.

Pulp Fiction is parody. How can you even put a question mark at the end of that sentence.

                          A) I didn't put a question mark at the end of that sentence; it was a statement. Not sure what you're talking about.
                          B) Critics and Tarantino himself have usually characterized PF as homage/pastiche, which is distinct from parody, but I agree it has elements of both.

Love the old stop animation stuff there.

I could go on with ancient horror movies that no one has heard of.

I've been wanting to watch Beastmaster lately, but it seems difficult to find on dvd, and I'm too cheap to pay shipping and too lazy to 'acquire' it.

Whoever mentioned Army of Darkness above, that's a personal favorite, but I'll toss in the rest of the Evil Deads with it.

I have to admit that this Saturday morning in the basement, my wife was flipping through the channels and stopped at 'Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion'.

I had to go upstairs to do some stuff and I turned it on the TV up there.
