Its easy for a system built in the 1970's to have nice stations. The newest subway stations in New York now were built at least 50 years ago. My local one was built 70 years ago.

    As this list shows,

The NYC subway carries twice as many people per day as the next 15 busiest commuter rail systems in the US combined (and two of those are also in the NYC area)

Besides, what kind of wimp can't walk four or five miles in a day? Manhattan below 86th Street isn't that big.

Hey, another NYC plus: people walk!

I have been to Texas Sloww (Dallas area). You haven't been to NYC.

What 3 foot by 3 foot rathole do you live in? First of all, anyone who lives anywhere near the Village saying that this city closes at 11PM is either deaf, dumb and blind (and by your posts, you very well might be) or lying.
I can't afford to live near the Village. I'm not rich.

and last call in NYC is at 4AM (one of the latest in the country).
You obviously haven't been paying attention. Bloomberg has a de facto policy of pushing last call to 2am.

And even 4am is lame by world standards. The bars should be open all night in a "city that never sleeps".

Second, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens each are bigger than most American cities, and as varied. I seriously doubt you have travelled much in either of those boroughs (as most outsiders going here to college tend to stick to Manhattan)
Why would I go to the other boroughs? Manhattan is generally agreed to be the best borough and even it sucks.

I'm talking about others. I didn't say anything, other than I hadn't been there. If you don't like it here, stay the **** away.

The Tokyo subway carries far more passengers, yet is far cleaner and more reliable than the NY subway.

The law says 4AM. The liquor State Liquor Authority (not controlled by the administration) can sign deals with bars to make it 2AM as a condition, but this is driven mainly by pressure from community boards sick of two many kids in the streets.

And yes, the US is lame by world standards when it comes to drinking. NYC is still open for business longer than most places in the US.

Not my problem you are stuck in your closed minded Nebraska ways.

And the Japanese pay lots of taxes to upkeep their infrastructure. The US doesn't. I would love for NYC to keep more of the tax money it collects and actually spend it on the subways. But it is anti-government folks like yourself that protest when people want to actually spend the money for world class infrastructure.

Give me a city where all the cool bars aren't being driven out to build more condos for yuppies.

Tax money has nothing to do with it. The Japanese are just much better at running things than New Yorkers.

At least we have cool bars to lose to never ending greed. Wait, I thought you like a capitalist system...

                      • Well then, get out to Woodside to drink at the many authentic Irish pubs (part of a thriving Irish community), or to Bay Ridge to hang out with the Italians, or to the Gate in park slope (great bar)... but wait, why would one go to the outer boroughs?....

Also, here in NYC we value money above all else. Isn't that what you should be learning in business school? What kind of fool would keep collecting rent from some bar when they could make a killing selling their property to a real estate developer?

Yeah, like I'm going to ride the train for an hour or more to go to a bar.

I'm not saying it's wrong. Just pointing out one of the myriad things that makes New York suck.

                          • Bulldoze history. Why not. Don't get excited, I'm not saying it's a NYC thing. Heaven forbid I say a discouraging word about NYC, even though it is different strokes for different folks. One man's trash is another man's treasure, so to speak.

Woodside is 25 minutes from Times Square on the 7. Park Slope as well on the 2 or 3. Bay Ridge is a bit out there, but worth a day trip.

                              • It's not bulldozing history that sucks; it's bulldozing fun. All the fun places in NYC are being replaced with condos, Starbucks, Duane Reades and bank locations to cater to all the spoiled yuppie liberal ****s who make NYC and San Francisco such expensive and boring places to live.
