    3. In fact, Manhatten is one of five burroughs.
It's spelled "borough", moron. And the fact is that Manhattan is the borough. The Bronx and Queens are ****holes. Staten Island is a boring suburb. Brooklyn is mostly a ****hole, excepting the few areas right across the river that have become Manhattan-like.

Manhattan still doesn't have a high mecha-per-capita rate, and therefore fails.

(Alas, Chicago also fails in this regard.)

New York is also far less corrupt than Chicago, which means New Yorkers will never see one of their own elected president again.

Seriously, if the president had laser beams shooting out of his eyes and missile launchers built into his shoulders, even Putin wouldn't try to pull ****.

New York City lost big in 2008 and Chicago was there to scoop up most of the spoils. The NYC economy is in the toilet due to the financial crisis. The Dem candidate from New York got beat by the Dem candidate from Chicago. Chicago even took Gotham City away from New York. Next thing you know, all the white people in America are going to be moving to Chicago to "find themselves" instead of New York...

              Hardly.

And it would be far faster to drive to Toronto from Newark than train if you cut through central PA. There's not that much traffic in Scranton, Binghampton or chunks of 86. You can go warp speed there as long as you avoid the deer.

Warp speed. Over-shoot and end up in Scranton.

Yeah, like I said, I wasn't thinking too clearly.

Comparing the DC metro with NYC is apples to oranges. The sheer volume NYC deals with dwarfs DC's by comparison, so naturally there is going to be more wear and tear, and hence more need for repairs that will shut down lines. But they were always good about announcing line closures in advance and posting them all over the subway stations, in my experience.

I wasn't too fond of the DC Metro system. Unless you were going from the outer rim of the city towards downtown or vice-versa, it took forever to get anywhere. And carpeted trains are just nasty.
OTOH, the underground stations aren't all steamed up and smelly like a giant dog's mouth. And the DC Metro fulfills its intended purpose of getting people who live outside the city into work each day and back out again.

Except for the frequent breakdowns, which cause massive rush hour backlogs, since unlike NYC, there is no third track to reroute trains around stalled ones.

Toronto desperately needs a third track. With all of the Leafs fans, we have a lot of jumpers. ****s up my commute.

Lots happening in Brooklyn post 11:00. I accept your spelling on boroughs but deny the moron charge. Staten Island seems popular among gays although I don't swing that way. Chill out, obviously people have loved NYC at least since the end of WW II. Something is attracting them.

that's true but I actually missed the smell of garbage juice in the morning when i briefly lived in the rural areas.

morning jog was unbearable with smell of manure invading my nose.

                            garbage smell > manure smell

What 3 foot by 3 foot rathole do you live in? First of all, anyone who lives anywhere near the Village saying that this city closes at 11PM is either deaf, dumb and blind (and by your posts, you very well might be) or lying. Hell, my neighborhood (mostly residential) has places that don't close their kitchens until midnight, and last call in NYC is at 4AM (one of the latest in the country).

Second, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens each are bigger than most American cities, and as varied. I seriously doubt you have travelled much in any of those boroughs (as most outsiders going here to college tend to stick to Manhattan), but the fact is that they each are made up of dozens of neighborhoods. Bay Ridge for example has a huge collection of great restaurants - the Chinatown in Flushing and the Indian community in Jackson Heights are great places to go. Riverdale is as rich as anywhere in the City can be, and City Island is more new england fishing village than anything else.
