  • Fox sez 92% of Americans believe in 'a' God

Jon and Jane on Fox say 92% of the people in 'this country' believe in 'a' God.

Really. I try to watch this **** channel for 2 minutes and I hear this. I'll refrain from mentioning the nonsense in the following 5 minutes, after which I closed the window in absolute disbelief in 'fair and balanced' journalism. Still I have to get this off my mind as it's mind-blowing.

Seriously: out of which gaping, festering ******* did they extract this piece of TOTAL lie.

Unless, maybe it is true and we can all continue bashing the US because of its religious zeal?

I actually don't consider this to be very shocking (the number... not that Fox is reporting this).
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

This number is floating around online, I've found no real backing to it.

Here is a 2003 polls that says 79% of Americans believe there is a God, 12% are unsure, and 9% do not believe:

Based on these numbers I can see a poll which gets a small outlier number of 92% that believe in 'a' God... or the question could have been asked to you believe in a God or do you believe there is no God and those who were unsure were forced to pick a side and picked the 'a' God side (substituting their own spiritual believes as akin to 'a' God).

edit: OTOH, an article from 2000:

More than nine in 10 Americans—95 percent—told ABC News polltakers that they believe in God. A Gallup Organization survey for CNN and USA Today last December found much the same thing: Nearly nine in 10—86 percent—said they believed in God, while another 8 percent said they believe in some form of "Universal spirit or higher power."

I would also like to point out that a fair number of those ~92% are anti-religion.

                      I don't believe that 92 figure for a second.

thats hardly a representative group there

many people believe in some god as they define it apart from the more traditional notions brought to us by organized religion. Even Bill Maher believes in god.

Bull. He makes it pretty clear he doesn't believe in any sort of god.

According to Wiki Berzerker is closer to being correct.

He has at various time called himself an agnostic or an apatheicist or has said he beleives in a 'force'. (his views are closer to what has been considered deist)

Most of my freinds (not all) who are very anti-religion are 'spritual' or deistic.
