Well, what if you and KH entered into a Gentlemens' Agreement not to buy/sell except on the first day? You list out on this board what stocks, etc. you bought, then the program auto-calculates the values for you and on week 12, you see how much cash each of you made?

Okay, fair enough.

I agree that 12 weeks is very short to demonstrate skill that is not just arbitrary and due to luck and gaming the tables.

However, it's interesting, technically any period of investing is basically arbitrary in length: A 36 month investing period beginning in april 1999 at the height of the tech boom and ending around october 2001 would be very different from a 36 month investing period that just started 8 months earlier in 1999. (Note: Didn't check the exact length of my hypothetical month-spans).

A longer time period is better for demonstrating skill, but it's arguable how much better it is.

I do, on the other hand, know that both theory and empirical evidence suggest that investing talent, such as it exists is extremely narrowly distributed.
