Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
I wish someone would have told me that a LA-SF ticket would cost only $38 on the high-speed rail. I voted against the initiative thinking that a rail trip that would take twice as long as a plane trip would never been popular.
If you believe that price figure, I've got a bridge to sell ya.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I see that the California high speed rail initiative passed in a close vote. What does this vote mean practically? Is it a done deal?
The whole network is projected to cost $45 billion and this only gets us $10 billion. There are federal matching funds available but they expire on Jan 1st so the state will have to move fast with the paper work or it will lose $10 billion in free money. Five years ago when they started working on the bullet train project the state was hoping for a private company to pony up the other $25 billion but that is unrealistic given the current market and was probably unrealistic from the very beginning.
The bottom line is we have enough money for about half of the network but we'll have to approve one or two more bonds (depending on if a private company can be found to operate bullet trains) in order to complete the system. Still this should be enough money to build a good portion of the network but not the tunnels which will be needed (2 tunnels needed one exiting the bay area and another entering the LA basin). Unfortunately the San Diego to LA section is the most expensive because new right of ways must be purchased so it will likely be delayed. :\
Gee, I wonder how many miles of high speed rail lines we could have bought with the financial bailout money.

I've never understood this line of thinking. Obviously, if you had used the money on high speed rail lines, the financial system wouldn't have been bailed out. It still would be tits up.
While priorities need to be set in some reasonable fashion, spending on a project needs to make sense of its own accord.

MmmmMMmmMMMmm. Tits.
Hey...why are tits like toy trains?
Both are meant for children but they end up being played with by men.

Unless we actually had enacted sensible regulations and prevented the bubble.
Let's just say that I'm still suspicious that the bailout will return the value that everyone claims. Where investing that much money in infrastructure would return visible value. Think of how many jobs it would have created.

Even if there is visible value, it could be a net loser of a project. In actual fact, there's only a tenuous connection between a bailout and an infrastructure project.

They haven't given away most of the $700bn yet. I hope we can still get it back, but the dems don't seem likely to do that. The only way we could do it is by putting pressure on them.
