I agree. But that's a House race, not Senate.

Ahh, yes, the useless ignore function. That's how Aggy still drives me up the wall.

If you insist on it I will be forced to place you on ignore.

America voting for a black man, sure. Try to understand that one can vote for a candidate without being really excited about it (see: me, 2004, voting for Kerry), and one can vote for a candidate and be excited about it (many people voting for Obama this time around. Myself... I don't really get excited about politicians).

Again, you might have done this but why are you assuming that the majority of those who voted for Obama actually bothered to look at his voting record?
I'm not assuming that anymore than I'm assuming McCain voters knew the issues cold either. I do expect that the vast majority of people who voted for either guy did so based on reasons other than skin color. Their reasons may or may not have been silly, mind you, but that's another matter.

This was a symbolic election for sure, but don't claim it was the fulfillment of King's ideal. Obama played the race card and accused anyone of not voting for him of being a racist.
              1. I have not claimed it was the fulfillment of King's ideal. It's a symbolic step in that direction only.

              2. No, he did not accuse anyone not voting for him of being a racist.

Here's the other thing. Obama is the least qualified president probably in the history of the institution. If this election were sincerely about electing the best person for the presidency regardless of the colour of his skin, then Obama would never have won the presidency.
Oh, I get it. You cannot accept that he won fair and square, so you must latch on to this explanation.

He's the least qualified in your opinion. You build your conclusion on that opinion. I, obviously, disagree. There have been, remember, a number of Presidents who had impressive resumes, but sucked as Presidents. I think Obama has shown qualities that suggest (suggest, not prove) that he has what it takes to be a good one. Millions of other Americans agreed.

If Obama was white no one would give two hoots about him.
You keep telling yourself that, Ben. Maybe it will soften the blow.

Hey BK, did blacks vote for Kerry in 2004 just because Kerry is black?
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Sorry, KH. I will cease now.

Bachmann is a rep, not a senator, right. My bad.

It's for my own good as well. Today, of all days, I don't need to be arguing with Ben.

I know, it's hard. It is just such a bald-faced lie...

I know it's a horrible Poly cliche, but

I would say that it's evidence that we are moving towards his ideal. It's not an actual step. It doesn't work like that. You can't elect presidents based on their color in order to eliminate racism.

Also, when ever Ben mentions Dr. King you should just ridicule him.

Quite so. It's merely the manifestation of movement, not movement in and of itself. Well put, Kid.

Also, Obama didn't use the race card in the campaign, but he used it last night in his acceptance speech. And that's understandable. It's something to be proud of.
