Lines weren't bad out where I live...just returned, and happy to help Mister Obama into the high office. (I'm not one of those folks who thinks anything of saying who I voted for...people put bumper stickers on their cars and signs as big as billboards in their front lawns...what? Like it's a secret? ).

Anyway, much more painless than I thought it would be.

GePap, on the news here last night, there was a segment that said employers were required to give you two hours to vote.

Not sure if that's a local ordinance or what, but at least around here it seems to be true.

I'm in the military and sent in my ballot a few weeks ago. I voted for Obama. I have reservations about him, but I think he'll make a better president than McCain.

I early voted a few weeks ago (and stood in line for like... forever!)... I voted McCain/Palin

You Americans seriously need to fix something with your voting process. When we had our elections last month, I voted on the main day around 6:00 pm - the prime time of prime time to vote. For whatever reason, I didn't get my registration card in the mail so I had to register at the polling station. Registration + voting took me a total of maybe 10 minutes. In all my years of voting, I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 minutes to vote, and even that's being generous. Waiting 30+ minutes is absurd.

I agree - there should be some way for employers to be required by law to provide one or two hours off from work to go out and vote.

Easier to just have it on Saturday, no? That way there is less business interruption. Good for the economy and all that.

So then employees working in retail and restaurants are still screwed on Saturday.

Strictly speaking, employers are required to let you out. But only for a couple hours, and clearly not a lot of people exercise this right.

But Saturday (or making election day a Holiday) would be clearly preferable to the status quo. And one should be able to register and vote at the same time (as a number of states already do).

Oregon is a mail-in ballot, so I voted a while ago. Man, it's so nice and easy here.

I had a line of three people at 7:30pm. Very simple... fast vote, too, since I skipped the judge recall BS on the back. 2/3 of the votes you have to cast in Illinois are whether to recall a judge or not, and rather than having it be a 'check if you want to recall the judge', there are both Yes and No options. The recall system of judicial elections are idiotic... just let congress (at whatever level is appropriate) do the voting, they actually have a clue at least.
