Pati presented the "getting drunk for cheap" rationale already. I don't much buy it and I agree with Space05us that if that is the aim, watering down or mixing cheap liquor with something else is a more economical option.

I know very well what a tailgate is, but unless you're a ****ing redneck, you drink good beer at all times.
Awesome reasoning. So I suppose you make stew out of tenderloin as well?
Why drink Bud or Miller in the first place?
Because they all taste as bad, but still taste different. Also, at the beach or on a boat of anywhere under the sun really, a lighter beer such as Amstel Light won't dehydrate you as fast.

It costs fewer dollars, and I don't mind if other people drink half the case. I always find it funny when people bring good beer to a tailgate.
Where did you get the idea it's significantly cheaper? I can get a case of Bud or Bud Light for the same price, but maybe it's different where you live. :confuse:
Terrible argument. Unless you don't just drink the beer out of the can at a tailgate party?
Face it, you're a redneck. Tailgating at NASCAR races drinking bud light.
DISGUSTING. SHAMEFUL. THE SHAME IS IMMENSE.

No, it just exposes your snobbiness. I suppose you drink the same calibre wine at home as you do at a fine resturant?
And hockey fans making fun of NASCAR fans is rich. Are there any NASCAR fans in this thread, btw?

You're from SC -- don't lie to me.
And yes, actually, I don't buy the cheap wine. If I'm to drink it, it's good ****.
The concept of standards is apparently foreign to you.

Yes they taste different - the light beers have even less taste than their non-light companions, as hard as rthat may seem.
What dehydrates is the alcohol content, and as Space05us already noted, light beer in the US does not always have less alcohol.

True. Cheapness is just one of any number of reasons.

If I'm at a bar, and the light beer is shockingly cheaper, and I have had it before and know it's not utterly vile, I'll switch to it when my tastebuds are shot and can't savor the good stuff.
Which, being Asian and all, means that I only have to buy two or three good beers.
This, of course, when I haven't decided to go the liquor route.

Patroklos is making a better argument than you. It is idiotic to spend a ton of money for your every day wine, unless you want to end in the poorhouse.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
Slightly off topic, but does anyone else find the Bud light commercial ridiculous? By what standard is "drinkability" a word, much less a marketable trait.
The undeserving maintain power by promoting hysteria.
