Sex appeal is a nice side effect. The primary goal of the Palin choice was to get the right wingers who got W. the 2004 election to actually get excited for the McCain ticket (because they really don't like him). And he needed someone charismatic... because McCain really isn't. So, in that sense, it was either Huckabee, Jindal, or Palin. Jindal didn't want it, and apparently there was some sort of animosity between Huckabee and McCain from the primaries. Palin got another boost because it was thought that perhaps she may get some Hillary voters (and some polling after the VP debate, shows that white women were a group that really had a positive bounce towards how they viewed Palin).

The interesting thing I've seen lately is "sky is falling" articles that Palin is the one to watch out for in a McCain-Palin ticket because of her boundless ambition.

And you're anti-logic, you commie nutsack.

Civil discourse is impossible and pointless with posters like you and Ned, who live in your own realities. I hold out some hope for Guy.

Palin was picked to energize the base. McCain's strategy is to now, mimick Bush's campaigns in 2000 & 2004. He'll be aiming at those states that Bush won, and he'll be using Bush tactics and personnel.

The winking, nose-crinckling is just Sarah. She describes herself as a hockey mom, which is feminine for "Joe SixPack." She was just talkin' to the folks.

(But CNN analysis of voter reaction indicates that, when Palin got girllie, the audience approval dropped.)

Elok likes to tell you what words you can use. If you discuss issues with him you have to have all the words you use approved by him. You may call that civil but I don't.

Well, generally when I'm arguing with you I chew you out for playing Humpty Dumpty and trying to make words mean whatever you want them to ("feminism is whatever I say it is," "Obviously by [x] this person meant [completely different thing from x]"). There it's not a question of civility so much as it is of sanity.

In this particular thread it's more a matter of being disappointed with Guy for talking like he's been possessed by Andrea Dworkin.

He did not sound at all like he is possessed by Dworkin. He simply used the word anti-choice when refering to people who oppose allowing women the choice whether to have an abortion.

Also, this thread isn't about abortion really. So you are trolling again. Both you and I know you've done it before.

So....for the conservatives here....are you sure McCain and Palin are....I dunno....conservative enough for you?

Cos that's the call that's going out after 8 years with the Shrub. All of a sudden, he's not a "real" conservative, even though it was the conservative base that got him elected both times (which seems indicative that he was "conservative enough.")

So...just checkin' in....you guys sure the dynamic duo aren't such a pair of mavericks that it begins to detract from their staunch conservatism? (ie., will we hear about the continuing victimization of the downtrodden conservatives even if this pair manages a win?)

Depends on which conservatives you are talking about. Social conservatives or fiscal conservatives?

Well, I could have said he sounded like he was possessed by you, Kid, but I decided that on the whole Dworkin was a more flattering comparison.

(I have no particular preference, nor any particular agenda in asking the question, so...as you like it).

EDIT: And, if they're NOT conservative enough for you, who would you have put on the ballot?

Bush's lack of conservativeness comes from the fiscal conservatives. The social conservatives generally don't tend to care all that much about the size of government. They just want their social issues covered, and mostly, Bush has done that (at least he's talked a good game and put Roberts and Alito on the bench).
