Except, for the most part, on CNN's little Male/Female undecided voters graph running at the bottom of the screen, Biden did better in the female sample than Palin did. And when they asked who had made their decision after the debate (and thus are no longer undecided), Obama was the choice of about 4 times as many as McCain.

    • She just debated to a draw with a 35 year veteran of the senate who has been dealing with national issues his entire professional life.

That's debating to a big win. Expect 5-10% boost in McCain's numbers.

      • I saw those Independent voter responses that went along with the debate. One thing I will say, I'm surprised so many Americans feel the need it is our god given right to defend Israel from everything.

        • Biden basically mopped the floor with Palin. She showed up and she didn't **** up, but I don't think independents are going to give her a lot of credit for that. She proved that she's not a moron, but she didn't even come close to meeting the standard of VP. If anything she successfully boosted Biden well above that bar by appearing unable to answer questions at all, while Biden provided specific, well informed responses.

          • Biden won the debate. Very impressive.

Palin didn't ask for a lifeline or cry for mommy, so she vastly exceeded expectations.

The headlines will be -- ""Palin holds her own", which is, in effect, a win for Palin. This is totally unfair since Biden destroyed her, and she didn't really hold her own, she just didn't **** her pants on stage.

You could tell Biden was holding back from totally calling her on her bull****, which was wise. He shot back, but largely avoided the "Gore effect".

Never in the history of Presidential elections as a VP debate had any significant impact on the polls. Lloyd Bentsen gave Dan Quayle the worst debate shellacking ever seen, and Dukakis' numbers didn't budge.

Why? Because it was freakin' DUKAKIS at the top of the ticket.

Likewise, it's freakin' MCCAIN at the top of the GOP ticket this year. And nothing Palin said changed that. In fact, Biden was tremendously successful in hammering McCain and tying him to Bush. Palin was not successful in making any sort of disassociation.

Oh, whatever. Usual rightist tactic, attacking the messenger instead of the message. Really, its exhausting.

Palin did fine. But she seemed like a Reaganite when this isn't a Reaganite election. She even quoted him three times. This isn't the 80's though.

                    • Lancer, But CNN certainly beats MSNBC as being fair and balanced... MSNBC got to the point where I can't even watch it... after it misrepresented a quotation completely that ALL THE OTHER CHANNELS got correct.

The one about Carly Fiorina saying "Neither Pres candidate, or VP candidate is qualified to run a Fortune 500 company, I am" quotation.

MSNBC's led line was "TOP MCCAIN ADVISOR SAYS HES NOT COMPETENT TO RUN A BUSINESS"

All other outlets reported "McCain Advisor says none of the candidates are qualified to run a business."
