  • China is awesome!

The future of space flight is bright, the future is red.

While the American space program continues to stagnate the Chinese are well on their way to the Moon and beyond.

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

They've taken a good first couple of steps. Good for them. I hope they keep it up.

Unlike, say, the last time they were into the whole exploration business. You know, when they decided to dismantle their fleets and ignore the world?

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

I think they learned their lesson. Several centuries of foreign humiliation does this...

This reminds me isn't it interesting how the US hasn't? I mean how would you describe NASA's post-Apollo ear other than "dismantling the fleet"?

My hope is that Japan, Korea or India do a stunt like this in a few years. The best thing for space exploration today would be an Asian space race.

A US-China space race would be better, but I don't think the US would be interested.

          No you don't.

In any case was I the only one to notice the pro-US airforce propaganda component of the SG-1 series?

Wow, China reinvents the wheel for the third time

Seriously, good for them. Every bit of space exploration helps, but pretending this is some eclipsing event is retarded.

                Its a first step.

Unless the US and Russia are willing to share their missle technology with the rest of the world, the only way for other nations to make progress is to reinvent the wheel.

Also the Chinese where smart about this, they got a lot of Russian technology. And they plan to go to the Moon on a similar timescale as the US, just that for some reason I think they'll actually stick to the schedule.

And yes it is a big deal for China, its a clear sign of their growing confidence and power to say an achievement is not spectacular because someone else has done it first is not a coherent position.

Did you ever notice that it is easier to research a tech in Civ after someone else has done it?

Do you think the engineering challenges of getting into orbit today are anything even approaching the difficulty of doing it in the 50s/60s?

Again, my hat off to the Chinese. Now who wants to discuss college football?

We've been to the moon, thanks.

Stagnate? We're the only nation with vehicles studying Mars. Three of them. Two which have lasted almost 1000% longer than expected

Not detracting from the Chinese accomplishments, but they have a ways to go.

NASA needs a kick in the ass. Who gives a **** about Mars. I wanna know about life outside our solar system.

Mars is boring. It's like Texas, but colder.
