It's just a needless distractor -- someone will inevitably say "see, you're just using this as yet another excuse to attack Christians". Don't even take it there.

See? Too late. Now we're talking about Jesus instead of the "But-he-was-kneeling-on-my-floor-without-permission" defense for murder.
Actually I only brought this in because this event happened in the deeply religious if not downright zealous American south. As it so happens, many of those libertarian gunslinging - hey I likes my gun and the guv'nment ain't got nuthin to say 'bout ma property - clowns are often quite devout. How often do we not hear as in this case that God is a factor. Check how Gonzalez thanked God as well as the jury etc.

I cannot understand how you thank god if the beacon of light you should follow, being Jesus - would totally and utterly disagree with you!

Maybe they're all adepts of the old testament over there in the US? Pillage, rape, incest, genocide and so on are pretty acceptable in that part in which God is a fearsome deity altogether

Just wanted to clarify why my referral to Jesus is not uncalled for...

If anyone of you have ever been to Laredo, something like this would not surprise you. Everyone here thinks it some kind of town filled with Jesus loving rednecks or something. 95% of Laredo's population is of Mexican heritage, it's on the Mexican border, and it is a hot spot for drug cartel conflicts. Like I said, when you're in Laredo, you're not in Texas anymore. Trust me, I've been to Laredo.

Have you ever heard the old addage about "assuming"?
You're assuming that everyone that breaks in is a robber. That's bad enough, but are you ignorant of criminals breaking in and killing the residents?
Have you ever heard of Charles Manson's "family", as a high profile example? Stop the criminals, don't blame the victim. That's not ignorance, that's stupidity.

.....what? I am not making any of the assumptions you claim that I am. Where the heck are you even getting those from? I did not say that or anything even resembling that.

What I said is that when a child breaks into a home to steal junkfood and is no threat with a literal gun to their back, it is murder to kill them.

Didn;t we have an old thread on this? From a couple of months ago? I think we came to the conclusion that under Texas law it was legal for the guy to kill the thieves...
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

We've had numerous threads over it. It's old. You're the one that brought it up again. I tell you what, if someone breaks into my place, if I'm going to assume, I'm going to assume the worst. I'm not going to go into my Quiz Master role, asking what they intend to do.

Whatever they may have intended to do became entirely irrelevant right about the time they knelt on the floor facing away from the man with the gun.

Gonzalez said he thought Anguiano was lunging at him when he fired the shotgun.
You are assuming, also. You weren't at the scene, not in the court. It DOES say these "children" were habituals. That's presented fact.

BTW, Traianvs, you idiot dip****. Why do you envoke the name of someone who you don't even believe in? Just showing your ass again?

I recall the article says there had been a few attempted break-ins in Gonzales' trailer, but it doesn't say it were the the same boys. Might have been other people too. Who knows.

I believe he existed, and I think he had great insights. That doesn't make him the son of God and that doesn't imply I need to believe in something I honestly can't right now. Not to mention the enormous impact his figure had for humanity.

You have obviously not understood what I wrote. All those religious extremists who condemn gays, promiscuity amongst youth and what not clearly haven't understand what Jesus was all about. If they did, they would be far more tolerant and less uptight. They use Jesus and religion as a loincloth to hide their own fallacies and prudish views. Like Al-Qaeda extremists with Mohammed, they hijack Jesus for their own goals instead of really udnerstanding his message. And clearly taking matters into your own hand, playing God yourself and taking away another's life with a mere pull of the trigger is not what a truly devout person would do.

As in everything moderation is the way to go. In the midwest as in many places on earth such as protestant Northern Holland or wahabism in Saudi-Arabia this doesn't exist. I hope you can at least see that point.

If someone breaks into your house and poses a threat to you, your family, or other innocents, then by all means use any necessary force to subdue them. If someone is coming at you, pull the trigger.

But this guy, after getting these kids to get on their knees and essentially surrender, should have called the cops, not shot them execution style. Sure, we may not know all the facts, hindsight is always 20/20, yada yada, but this looks pretty extreme any way you spin it.
