I think it was fair of me to assume that you meant that, however, it you didn't I accept that.

Of course. We're talking about relationships, or at least I was.
Which, mind you, goes against many anti-essentialist schools of feminist thought.
Maybe you think that I'm saying that all women are the same and all men are the same. I'm not. I'm talking about general tendencies.
Why does my experience matter in this case? People have different methods of communication that are culturally learned. Asian societies and Western societies, for instance--or even WASPs and Southern rural families. I don't see what's so difficult to understand there, why I think it's hard to say that one form is better than the other, particularly when lots of different variables must be considered.
I'm making the point that no one believes that the male style of communication, or lack thereof is better than the female style.

I don't. What I am saying is that not all feminists believe as you do, that its expression is an inherent, natural behavior pattern, rather than one that's learned.

Which is fine. I'm not claiming it's better. I'm stating that the value judgement that one is better than the other, however, is socially constructed.

          • Well, I tried. I told my GF, "look, honey, if you're going to call yourself a feminist, you're going to have to hush up and make your opinion conform to this man's."

You owe me a new GF, Kid.

EDIT: Actually, I told her what you said just now. Her remark: "I don't get along with women. Why would I want to make you one?"

Interesting "feminist" to say the least.

                • She's just trying to get women to break out of your socially constrained "secondary" roles and become more like the "primary" roles, ie, men
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

                  • Actually, AFAIK she just likes the idea of not being a second-class citizen for having two X chromosomes. She relates better to men than to other women much of the time, but that doesn't make her a man...which is a damned good thing, from my POV!

Elok has a higher opinion of her than you do. You don't actually think it would be a good thing for the human race as a whole to be less sensitive do you?

Maybe she doesn't like women because she blames them for her own oppression. She sounds like one of these oreo cookies who don't have black friends and their white friends can make racists jokes in front of them and then say don't worry your a good black person we aren't talking about you and they feel like they aren't black.

That says a lot about you, and I understand why you believe a lot of the things that you believe.

But being sensitive is being intelligent. Sensitive people have a gift. Male dominated society tries to diminish how valuable this is to society because it makes women much more important than they are said to be.
