We Euros should start ignoring NATO and form our own alliance. I'm sure the French wouldn't mind feeling important for a change, I'll write a letter to my representative stressing why I think it is wital we kiss their and Germany's ass instead of the US's.

On second thought what if we just kick the US out of NATO?
The sane members of our nation realize the Europeans are still worth having as friends, will you give us 4 or 5 months so we can clean house, before you boot us out?

McCain sure does make a lot of "errors" as you conservatives call them. Some of them shouldn't really be called errors though. Did he try to cover this one up and lie in the process again like he did with his "when I'm president the US will never fight a war for oil again" comment?

Hmm, that's a pretty good policy. Does it extend to webcams?

If McCain appoints Edwards to be Ambassador to Spain, that should settle the issue of whether or not this was a gaffe.

Hey if America is willing we'll have you as an ally anytime, we just don't appreciate being treated as vassals.

Hint: Learn to do it more discretely.
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”

What kind of idiocy is this? All meetings must be scheduled and 'agreed' upon in some fashion, thats so mind numbingly obvious. When a leader says their are "Conditions" to a meeting hes not referring to the place and time or the type of jam that will be served at the meeting. It means "I won't meet until your government changes a policy or political position". For example McCain's meeting with Ahmadinejad are conditional on changes in Iran's nuclear programs and policies. When Obama says he will meet Unconditionally it means he dose not demand they change anything before a meeting can take place.

Allies should of course meet each other unconditionally, to do otherwise shows that one holds the alliance itself in disdain.

                Such as...
Ahmadinejad: I want a meeting to discuss the possible dismantling of Iran's nuclear program.
Pres. McCain: Not until you give up your nuclear program.
                Pres. Obama: Okay. Let's meet.

Refusing to talk to your enemies as if you are harming them is idiotic in the extreme, the republicans, anyone, who refuses to talk to our enemies as if we are somehow punishing them by not talking, should be the subject of national scorn and insult. It is bone headed beyond words.

If a US politician offends Spain, is this likely to affect the Hispanic vote (like the Irish vote to Ireland) or is it not going to have an effect?

                      • Plus Irish-Americans have a sense of connection to the homeland. Hispanics in the U.S. have intermixed so much with Mesoamerican cultures that they don't much identify with the country of Spain, at least AFAICS. Language and religion are nearly all they have in common.
                        Unbelievable!
