They are self-evidently NOT.

As much as I agree with the idea that animals are not senseless brutes and that we humans have certain moral obligations towards them in varying degrees, I really don't think this is at all relevant to the discussion of when we demarcate the point at which a human life earns legal rights. If you don't like reality, change it! me

Obama has never made a secret of the fact that he's pro-choice.
What he urges is for us to find common ground. Such as, together we need to work on ways to decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies.

That's a question for philosphers, theologians and maybe biologists -- not for a politician.
If, for instance, the answer is "at conception" then abortion is murder. Full stop.

To a degree, yes. On what other basis would we deny other animals rights of personhood?
This is a good thing. In the past people said that retards, blacks, women, and other groups weren't fully human due to not having the mental facility. This was wrong.

When is the last time chimpanzees infested your house?

Because the argument is what's an appropriate basis for legal protection. The fact that we don't share enough DNA with a species is not convincing justification for denying that protection.
Again, suppose some intelligent aliens start immigrating to Earth. You think that it should be completely legal to knock them off?"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. Ah well, better throw in my opinion on the actual subject. Massive contraceptive initiatives, abortion remains illegal under most circumstances. I don't buy the "woman's body" crap any more than I buy Sloww telling us he's got a right to shoot burglars. Almost all personal sovereignty can be overridden by a sufficiently urgent greater good.

We don't know enough about our own thinking or how that works to start even more baseless guessing about what other species think or guess.
I'm not saying that my criteria is perfectly coherent, or that there aren't huge uncertainties involved here, but I think it makes a lot more sense than using sufficiently similar DNA as the basis for distinction. I don't see why that should matter at all.
If they are migrating here, the question is wether they decide to knock us off, not the other way around.
In this hypothetical, let's say that they're peaceful. Whether or not such a form of life exists doesn't invalidate the point here. Are you saying that they should be denied legal protection merely because they aren't homo sapiens sapiens?"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before.
