Not sure anyone cares what your opinion of Windows is. If it's anything like your opinion of web standards and good site design, it's hilariously irrelevant.

      • for normal marketing that see day to day on TV they are 10/10 breath of fresh air in a sewer... a rare ad that I would not try to switch to the next channel to avoid it if it was on (or continue flipping though 5 minutes (go to BBC) when all of them happen to have ads.

There may be few ads a year that is something that I don't mind to
see, as all the rest is 1000x regurgitated crap exploiting sex, guilt power and pleasure or some combination thereof which obviously works well on general population... but well... I guess this ad was too good, so it did not reach the "target market" ... :itsaworldwelivein: and I watch minimum TV as a consequence too... which I suppose is not too bad...

do you think it's possible that there's a third phase? it seems wrong to just have a campaign in response to apple's. shouldnt they also present their own product independent of the competition?

            • What exactly would you have them market?

The Seinfeld spots were a mixed success at best. They just weren't that good. But they did get lots of eyeballs.

Some people have strong emotional investments in this stuff. Imran's blind acceptance of the agency/MS spin that this was all part of the plan is equally clueless.

                  • Considering the CNet article guy was told TWO WEEKS ago that Seinfeld was leaving after 2 commericals seems to indicate that rather than "blind acceptance", it was, you know, actually trying to gather the facts rather than the popular sport of MS bashing, regardless of whether they deserved it or not.

                    • No, Imran.

"is consistent with" =/ "actually stated that"

Trust me: If the interview with the MS VP from 2 weeks ago contained the substantive fact you believe it did, it would have been published. You have swallowed the spin story whole.

I do fully believe that a shift to the current commercial series was planned. But the full stop in Seinfeld usage -- after allowing 2 weeks of "starring Seinfeld for $10MM" to float around -- was most definitely a course correction. A smart one IMO.

                      • How is a thread about MS commercials going this strong, and Asher isn't even the biggest poster?

                        • The ads were created on Macs by a company that was featured on Apple's site as an all mac shop a while back.

Are you ****ing retarded? Wait, don't answer that.

While I've never been in their offices to know they only use Macs, I can call either you or Apple a liar with one simple link:

From early detection to takedown, Netcraft’s comprehensive external threat intelligence and digital risk protection platform keep your organization and customers safe online.

Crispin-Porter's website has been running Windows since 2002.

So did Apple's website lie, or did you lie?

                            "Fail again" indeed.

                            • As a side note, I've found Apple's piece of propaganda in google cache:
Working with technical director Scott Prindle and system architect Adam Heathcott, Alvarez suggested the Mac minis. “Most of the company works on Macs and I knew we’d be editing on Final Cut Pro systems,” Alvarez says. “The easiest way for me to approach this was, get the footage already digitized, give it to our editors in a format they can use, and just feed everything up.

So we can immediately call Agathon a liar by finding the primary source which supposedly calls it an "all Mac" shop. The article is also old and mentions only one particular campaign, which they did on Mac Minis.

So we've got two claims Agathon has made:
                              1) The current ads were made on Macs (how would you prove that, you insufferable douchebag?)
                              2) The ad agency is an "all Mac" shop, which is demonstrably false via both Apple's website and via a third party web crawler which demonstrates them using Windows since 2002 in at least part of their business (servers/infrastructure). Why would you lie, you insufferable douchebag?

                              Fail fail fail fail. Fail.
