Actually it was on page 4 of this effing thread. And the fact that you still haven't responded to the point it raises and continue to treat the speech as something serious offends me with its stupidity.

        • The Web site for the Alaska Independence Party says Sarah Palin wasn't a registered member but her husband is and eye witnesses say Sarah Palin frequented there meetings with her husband and even made speeches in support of the party.

Oh, and they do indeed want Alaska to secede from the US.

The call for this vote is in furtherance of the dream of the Alaskan Independence Party's founding father, Joe Vogler, which was for Alaskans to achieve independence under a minimal government, fully responsive to the people, promoting a peaceful and lawful means of resolving differences.

          • A Congressman from Georgia just called Obama "uppity" a term traditionally used in the south to describe uppity negros who don't know their place. It's clearly a racist term with a long history in the south.

                • I'm a journalist IRL, and I *dislike* where a lot of the coverager is going in my chosen profession. I've fought against some of it, but it's a losing battle. And you want to know why, Guy? Because if average folks really cared, they'd be flooding us with letters, e-mails, visiting our offices and whatnot.

The problem is that I'm not what is generally thought of as an "average" person. I'm one of those dreaded elitists, I spent way too much time in school and have one too many degrees. I used to send letters ranting and raving about news coverage all the time; fat lot of good that did.

Anyway, you're just restating exactly what I said. The media is a business, like any other. They need to make money. They do what they have to do to make it. That is why we don't have "real" news coverage in this country. You're right--the media is giving the people what they want. The media's failings are our failings.

And the speech Governor Palin gave in 2007 to them referred to them as the "opponent" in the first sentence! If it was Senator Obama addressing the Green Party, saying while they are the opponent, he wishes them luck, you'd be jizzing yourself over how awesome he is.

BINGO. So, until folks in the United States start giving a damn about things beyond their hometown, the various media elements aren't going to give those topics much heed.

Don't get me wrong: local news is incredibly important, precisely because it does impact lives in a direct fashion. But with ever-rising costs and changing media-consumption habits and interests, it's the international, national and even regional coverage that pays the price.

I'm sure a time will come when interest in such news topics will reignite — for example, following Sept. 11, 2001, there was a spike in fascination with a lot of things Middle Eastern in origin, just as attention on homegrown U.S. militias blossomed for a time after Oklahoma City — but it usually takes something major in order for that to happen.

Bollocks. Plenty of Americans were interested in John Edwards affair once it came out, but the American media buried the story for months anyway. There are clearly ulterior motives at work, far beyond "giving the American people what they want"...

So you think that she didn't attend AIP meetings because she called them the opponent in 2007? They were the opponent in 2007, because she wanted to be governor!

No. The mainstream media is exactly the kind of media that the american people want. There are alternative media out there speaking truth to power, but they aren't respected by mainstream society.

Well that and that head of the AIP says that Governor Palin was never a member. Do try to keep up, will you?
