A question to posters who were "young" in the late 70's
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Great thread. I didn't own any disco, and didn't seek it out (on radio, etc.), but didn't bear it the animosity that so many of my peers did (especially considering that I grew up in Chicago, the epicenter of the Disco Sucks movement). And I took a lot of crap for arguing -- as I still will -- that Saturday Night Fever is a truly great, shamefully underrated film. -- to say nothing of it also being vastly superior to that other popular film from 1977, Space Battles (or something like that).
What I find interesting is that now, I'd far rather run into some disco on the radio than the late-70s rock that dominated my high school years (at least until my junior year, when I belatedly discovered Elvis Costello). Bob Seger, Heart, or REO Speedwagon will send my finger searching for the "scan" button when driving, but KC and the Sunshine Band or Earth Wind & Fire will have me cranking up the volume, every time. Go figure.

hey Grandpa Troll, did you listen to that Wyclef Jean song that used the BeeGee's song Staying Alive? I'm curious as to what an older gentleman would think about the fusion of rap music and an old classic.
That Wyclef Jean song from '97 and the Sugar Hill Gang song from like 78 or something that I just posted... I don't see how you couldn't like them if you liked disco. It's just a continuation on the same spectrum
I know some Wyclef Jean, and it's ok. I don't know Sugar Hill Gang.

here is #1 on side 2 :
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
In all fairness, Michael Jackson did some good things. "Thriller" was probably the greatest video ever made.
