Why McCain will be the Next President of the United States

Is it just me, or is this a monumentally stupid attitude to take (I ask the rest of you since I'm on Aggie's ignore list at my own request)? Hello, we're still the world's #1 military power, and a major player economically. If the next president succeeds in running our country into the ground, the rest of the world is going to feel it pretty bad. Plus you all need us for any meaningful action on climate change, not that it much matters since China isn't about to stop their breakneck economic growth just to prevent mass environmental catastrophes.Originally posted by Agathon
rah's argument is specious. McCain is running as close to Bush as he can, and is in no way shape or form running as the insurgent of 2000 (which was atypical if you look at his past record). If people want to vote for another Republican who is running on a similar platform to the one whose approval rating is approaching Nixon's at his nadir, then I'm all for it, but then I don't really have US interests at hear, do I?
Still, for us foreigners it's a good laugh. Jesus, it's getting to the stage where even the Italians have a cause to laugh.

Has there ever been a non-white leader of a political party (and therefore potential PM) in the UK? Having a black candidate is amazing, having one with a very good chance of winning is even more amazing. Well done USA.
Plenty of racists in the UK. Can't imagine a black leader of any of our parties, it'd put off too many voters.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

I'm curious about the Obama is black thing.
Obama is half-black half-white and was entirely raised by the white side of his family (mother and grandmother).
When one is 50/50 but one half is black, does that overpower the rest? He really should be championed as a mixed-raced candidate, not black."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

I dismiss the theory, because it's horse****.
It's the same thing in Canada...when people are 25% Aboriginal they call themselves Aboriginal and demand benefits as such.

It is horse-**** but it still holds. Really, the vast majority of African Americans have white ancestors. There's a reason why most Blacks in America are a lot lighter than Nigerians, after all.
But this is nothing new. For example, Colin Powell was the first black secretary of state yet he has the complexion of an Italian and shares ancestors with Bush and Kerry but still, he was the first black sec. of state.

I just find it funny that people are so stupid they need to simplify things like that.Originally posted by Kidicious

He's mixed race. I've got friends who are mixed and they always think of themselves as such -- eg, half filipino half white or half chinese half white...they don't refer to themselves as filipinos or chinese, but mixed."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. It's just the way that it is. Individuals really don't simplify things. It's the way society sees you.Originally posted by Asher
