You can arm an entire infantry division worth of soldiers for less than half a million dollars. AK-47's and RPG-7's are all you need to cause enough death and destruction to have half of the citizens of the invading super-power demand pulling out.

Why is that so hard to understand? It was working until our troop surge.

And you think it's acceptable to have invading armies in your country? No one wants them there in the first place.

          huh? Now I'm confused.

I thought we were talking about military spending as a % of GDP. You were trying to tell me that defense spending is not variable, meaning it's not related to the size of the population needing to be defended, the size of the territory being defended, etc. Doesn't make any sense but you then said what did population have to do with it when you fight a much bigger military with superior weaponry. It was an odd comment, kidicious, but I decided to humor you and mention how cheap AK-47's were.

          Now I don't understand.

Here's the explanation. The US spends way more than it needs to to defend the US compared to other nations. This is due to the MIC.

Well, see, kidicious, we don't just defend our country like other nations do. We also have this group called NATO that's made up of 25 other countries that we have to defend. Then there's these countries called South Korea and Japan and, you guessed it, they need our protection too. Plus there's a small country called Kuwait which was taken over by a bad man 17 years ago but we saved it.

Oh yeah and I almost forgot! There's also these two giant countries, about the same size as us called Russia and China and they spend billions of dollars on their militaries.

Maybe not, but misspelling 'slobbering' and writing 'then' instead of 'than' pretty much automatically qualifies you as a slobbering idiot no matter who you vote for...

I know! I know! I know! Because Bush failed to send enough troops to secure Saddam's armaries, which allowed them to be looted. Because Bush disbanded the Iraqi army, sending home hundreds of thousands of armed, out-of-work, angry men. Right? Right? Right?

If you look on your nice little list you will find that all of those countries spend relatively little on their own defense. Isn't that nice for the people of those countries and the US MIC?!

And those aren't your allies so they have to spend more on their military or you will invade them. Yet they still spend much less on their military than you do in comparison.

In fact, it's because the US spends so much on it's military that total world military spending is so high.

                    • Not to mention conveniently forgetting the Cold War...

I mean, clearly the US population dislikes bush's policies, so why not give the other party a try? Why? Obviously hard-line Dems and Repubs are going to vote their party, but elections are decided by the undeclared/undecided/independent voters. Usually, for them, it's a who-seems-like-a-nice-guy contest, but you'd think Bush=Republican/ McCain=Republican would actually mean something this year, given how terrible Bush's numbers are on the war and the economy. You really do have to be pretty *#$(&ing ignorant to be an "independent" who completely disapproves of Bush but votes for McCain anyway. There's really no way around that.
