    • Determining roughly the height of the wall based on my understanding of Zkrib's intention to make the wall as high as the level front yard plus one step, aprox 8 inches. In the pic the pencil in Shjo's hand is roughly the top of the rock wall upon which we build the three foot high cement/gravel wall. On our property that's the wall the amigos (top pic) are leaning on.

This wall will be big. Big.

Doable though. Just takes time and pesos.

Monday the laborers will begin excavating gravel. When digging a trench in roundish gravel the gravel falls into the trench. So, the excavation is the trick. Labor intensive but the labor is very reasonable.

Meanwhile the skilled workers will be building what will in the fullness of time become the laundry room but now will be the storage room. Btw Zkrib, what height will this room be? It should be at least as high as the circumference wall, the height of which we also need to know. Same as mine?

      • Today Sho and I went to Zkrib's property and reviewed all that Zkrib told us before leaving, and determined roughly the wall height, and took all but the first pic. Now Sho is working on water, electric, and material needs for the work on Monday and I'm dickin around on the comp.

          • This is the location of the wall above the long rock determined by Zkrib and looking back towards my place which is just up the road.

            • This is Tina who you will remember from last year. When she gets out of college she'll be working for Zkrib cooking for the crew, taking and posting regular pics here on Poly, and cleaning up the job site. Until she gets out of school Malou, Sho's wife, will fill in if that's ok w/ you Zkrib.

Tina should be available Saturdays until then. The crew likes to work 6 day weeks. They get positively ornery when a suggestion otherwise is made. That's one reason I like to give them a relaxing party on Sunday afternoon with bbq and drinks. Now, they make better money, they can pay their own party.

I'll be getting Tina set up on Poly soon and Aeson will be helping her with her avatar.

                  • For the benefit of the Polytubbies: Those big rocks you see in the photos aren't on my property. They're on the property next door, where the town will be building a basketball court. They're using boulders as their seawall; mine will be reinforced concrete. My property is the one will all the trees.

Lancer, I'm assuming my wall should be the same height as yours...unless you can think of any reason it should be a different height. I think the laundry room roof shouldn't be higher...just so it doesn't stick up. I'm also wondering if we shouldn't extend the roof of the laundry room back towards the ocean 2 or 2 1/2 extra meters to create a de facto car port. What do you think?

A step isn't 8 inches. It's more like 2 or 3. I just want something high enough so, if rainwater starts pooling in my frontyard, it doesn't drain into my house.

I can vouch for the fact that Tina is a mega-sweetheart. And she's signed on to be the cook for my construction crew.

                    • Two meters in towards the ocean. We're talking cement roof so the small round beach stones can go on top ala your keeping cool plan? If we go 2 meters we'll need a post in the corner opposite the corner of your property.

Something else to consider... If we do the boat ramp it will fill up with native boats. The only way to do it would be to enclose it in the circumferance wall and put a gate on the ocean side and land side. Alot of work...you want that?

I'm devising a way to ramp a boat up on top of my wall using a chain block...

                      Three inch step it is.

Wall same height, don't show roof.

I'm rethinking the laundryroom roof. We need something solid to keep the rain out. Nifa [sp?] leaves won't do it. I guess concrete would be best and easiest. But we really don't need the pebbles on top because a hot laundry room would only mean the clothes dry faster. Forget about the car port for now. (If I decide to later add on a car port, nifa leaves would probably go well there because a few drips won't hurt the car.)

Ugh! No. An unsupported perpheral wall at that section will get battered down by the July waves. I can't think of anyway to get the boat ramp to work.

Maybe the same for me. But we don't have to decide that now, do we?

FYI: I haven't had time, over the last couple of days, to get to my home computer. So I haven't had an opportunity to e-mail Theresa about the adjustment to Sho's salary or to check to see if Tito's responded to my earlier e-mail to him.

Pouring rain and windy today and predicted tomorrow hopefully clearing on Monday.

Caught myself looking for a baseboard heater! What is the world coming to?
