In short, big bad America bullied Russia and now Russia is just standing up for itself.
Cry me a freakin' river.
The Russians don't have a reason to cry. However, if I browse through this thread and it's predecessor, the West is much in the crying business, and the river is approaching ocean dimensions.
Those "provocations" are nothing more than just a Saak's stories he needed to start the war.
South Ossetian had no reason to provoke the war with Georgia.
They were de-facto independednt and didn't give a damn about Saak or his regime. They live like they are an independent country since 1992 when they signed a cease-fire treaty with Georgia and recognition of their independence is pure formality. You simply do not understand what that war (1991) was for them. Every family lost someone. That was a nighnmare. And the last thing they wanted is part II of that nightmare.
On the other hand, for Saak's regime the de-facto independence of SO was a constant pain in the ass. He promised he will solve this issue by all means necessary.
There were "provocations", no doubt, but provocations from Georgian side. That was a well prepared show which final action should took place at the oppening day of Olympic games.
I have a couple of problems with this actually. I have read reports of South Ossetians operating armoured vehicles...did they learn that over the weekend? Who trained them if it wasn't the Russians? Secondly, I have nothing but sadness for what the South Ossetians went through and what they are going through now. Certainly one can see how they would want to start a conflict leading to independence or "absorbtion" into the Russian Empire...uhhh...Federation as long as they were promised Russian support. Clearly the Russians had this operation planned as evidenced by the war footing their troops were on before the Georgian actions and the near instantaneous response of their troops.
I hardly think the Russians are not culpable here.
Now...that being said, I like the South Ossetian's claim for independence. It makes a lot of sense. This should have been handled through negotiations. I wonder, if the Russians are really so concerned about an independent Ossetia, if they ever offered to through in North Ossetia for the new country. Oh! Of course not...that is their soverign territory.

This must be the first time Russia won a war during my lifetime

I think you, as a Russian citizen, accuse too many countries as fascists. I think the only ones eligible for you are N.Korea, Iran, Belarus, perhaps China and of course a collection of african states. Tell me if I missed some.
Oh, come on. N Korea and Belarus are fascist countries now? That's quite an accomplishment in stretching the definition department. On second thought, I wouldn't accuse Iran and China of being fascist either. Fascism requires large-scale capitalism.

None of these are, but Serb is using "fascist" interchangeably with, I don't know, "jerk" or "douchebag". Silly.

So, just to be clear, you think that an airforce that can't afford to have PGMs on every sortie should be held to as high a standard as the USAF?
Grozny was largely MLRS'ed.
Your blind pro-Russianness is disturbing.

I don't think you've read my posts with Serb(for the past, oh, 5 years or so) if you honestly think I am "Blind pro-Russianness".
The statement still stands. Not every country uses PGMs in 90% of their attacks. Like the man said, you go to war with the army you have, not the army you want. Especially if it's mid-90s middle-of-a-depression Russia.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

Smart bombs are as stupid as "military intelligence". PGM:s are just a more expensive way to kill innocent civilians.
Anyone remember "Bagdad Cafe" in the first days of the Iraq invasion? A dozen or two civilans died by a smart bomb that was meant for Saddam, who wasn't there.
Not to forget Chinese embassy embarrasment and several Al-jazeera offices.
Carpet bombing is a more honest way of waging war, admitting that you really are the A-hole some people accuse you to be.
