I sure hope that you are realizing here that the Russians are far from innocent regardless of what Georgia did.

MLRS are ok as a weapon, but it's not ok to use such weapon to kill civilians.
That fires guided missiles with a 300 mile range which is very different from dumb old fashioned rocket artillery.

        • Two major results of this:

          1. France is the only superpower on Earth. When Kouchner and Sarkozy traveled around, all sides gave in and ended the hostilities.

          2. I noticed a shift in Russian policy towards Kosovo, since they are now pro-minorities deciding for themselves about their future.

                • The Guardian is reporting that Russian irregulars and militia have broken the ceasefire. I had a feeling this would happen. How much control does the Russian Army really have over Cossacks and other nutters?

                  • on newsnight last night they were reporting from gori, which the georgian army appears to have abandoned. casualties were coming in and the feeling was that it wasn't the russian army but ossetian irregulars who were responsible.

of course, these sorts of skirmishes tend to happen after any ceasefire. it's just a question of whether they will escalate.

                    • Swedish reporters in Gori have seen lots of Russian tanks rolling into town this morning, with infantry riding on top, obviously not expecting any resistance.

They got lost in an unfamiliar country. Or they were just making sure people remembered who won the conflict.

                          • The reason for renewed actions is, apparently, the fact that they found a plan by Georgia to attack Abkhazia on multiple fronts relatively soon.
